Hidden away in our stores and recently brought out for study is this remarkable flag, commissioned by the Marquis Giuseppe Scicluna and painted by the artist Filippo Venuti, who was responsible for almost half of the painted decorative programme at Palazzo Parisio.

Deeply committed to supporting the Naxxar community, the Marquis commissioned this flag to be displayed from the palace during the annual village feast in September. It depicts Our Lady of Victories, the patron saint of Naxxar, with the composition closely inspired by the revered wooden statue preserved in the Parish Church.

The flag was recently loaned to the parish for a special exhibition, allowing it to be appreciated by the community once again. We hope that, in the future, it can be carefully restored and permanently displayed at Palazzo Parisio, where it forms an important part of the palace's history and the Marquis' enduring connection with Naxxar.

The number is in: €22,800 raised for the MSPCA at this year's Prohibition Ball, made up of €17,190 in ticket sales and €5,610 from the raffle.

And every penny raised goes straight to the charity.
