Maltese Mayors Extend Solidarity Beyond Borders 🇲🇹🇻🇦

During their official visit to Rome, a number of Maltese mayors had the opportunity to visit the Madre di Misericordia Clinic at the Vatican, a remarkable initiative dedicated to providing free healthcare and medical assistance to homeless people, individuals living in poverty, and those most vulnerable in society.

The clinic offers a wide range of essential services, including medical consultations, specialist treatment, dental care, diagnostic examinations and medication, ensuring that those in need receive care with dignity, compassion and respect.

Beyond presenting a specially handcrafted gift to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, the Maltese delegation also made a donation of €4,000 in support of this noble cause.

This gesture reflects the values embraced by the Local Councils’ Association through its vision of “Residents First – Better Quality of Life”, founded on solidarity, inclusion, equality and the belief that no one should be left behind.

Our responsibility towards people and communities does not end at our shores. Compassion and solidarity know no borders, and even small gestures can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.

Local government is ultimately about serving people, protecting human dignity and building a more caring and inclusive society.

🇲🇹 A Proud Moment for Malta’s Local Government Sector! 🇻🇦

A truly memorable occasion for Malta’s local government sector, meeting His Holiness Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican City.

The delegation was led by the President Mario Fava of the Local Councils Association and its Executive Committee, together with Minister Alison Zerafa Civelli Shadow Minister Bernice Bonello, the National Auditor and Assistant Auditor, Permanent Secretary Emile Vassallo Regional Presidents and Mayors, including Paul Gatt President of ANSEK.

It was an honour to be part of this significant occasion, highlighting the important role of local government in serving our communities and strengthening the values of unity, collaboration and public service.

🇲🇹🇻🇦 Maltese Local Government Representatives in Rome to Meet Pope Leo XIV

The Local Councils’ Association is currently in Rome, leading a delegation of Mayors and Regional Presidents from across Malta and Gozo as part of an initiative that will see them meet His Holiness Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican tomorrow, 21 October.

Accompanying the Maltese delegation are the Minister for Local Government, Hon. Alison Zerafa Civelli, the Shadow Minister for Local Government, together with other representatives of Malta’s local government sector and the National Audit Office (NAO).

This visit reflects the values at the heart of local government: service, solidarity, inclusion and a shared commitment to the wellbeing of our communities.

It also reinforces the Association’s vision, “Residents First – Better Quality of Life,” recognising that local government is ultimately about people, strengthening communities and making a positive difference in everyday lives.
