The Energy and Water Agency hosted a series of site visits in collaboration with Berytech, a partner in the WEFE4MED consortium, alongside the Energy and Water Agency.

The site visits, aimed at showcasing Maltaโ€™s water governance framework, featured visits to the Ghajn National Water Conservation Awareness Centre, the Chadwick Lakes Trail, and EWAโ€™s qualitative and quantitative monitoring stations used to assess Maltaโ€™s groundwater reserves.

In accordance with WEFE4MEDโ€™s core objective of building a Mediterranean Nexus Community of Practice, the visits were intended to explore potential avenues for collaboration between the visitors, their respective organisations, and the Agency.

Along the trail at Chadwick Lakes, youโ€™ll come across zones where invasive plants have been carefully removed. Itโ€™s part of an ongoing effort to protect the local ecosystem. These plants are dried and composted, returning nutrients to the soil in a sustainable way.

Thereโ€™s more happening at Chadwick Lakes than meets the eye. Thanks to restoration work carried out by the Energy and Water Agency along with other partners, invasive species have been cleared and native trees are now thriving

๐๐š๐ซ๐ซ๐จ๐ฐ-๐ฅ๐ž๐š๐ฏ๐ž๐ ๐€๐ฌ๐ก โ€“ ๐…๐ซ๐š๐ฑ๐ข๐ง๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐Ÿ๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐š โ€“ ๐ข๐ฅ-๐…๐ซ๐š๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ง๐ฎ

The Narrow-leaved Ash, known locally as il-Fraxxnu, is a tall tree that grows in valleys around Chadwick Lakes. ๐ŸŒณ This fast-growing tree can reach up to 45 meters tall with a trunk as wide as 1.5 meters. It produces flowers in spring, which are pollinated by the wind. The tree's seeds are also carried by the wind, allowing it to spread across the area.

The Narrow-leaved Ash was historically used as a fodder tree for livestock in southern Europe, and its presence at Chadwick Lakes contributes to the diversity of the local flora.
