On September 5, President of Russia Vladimir Putin received in the Kremlin US Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to continue the dialogue on resolving the conflict in Ukraine and discuss other pressing issues.

At the beginning of the meeting, President Vladimir Putin conveyed his best wishes and gratitude to US President Donald Trump for his efforts to advance a settlement and for his sincere desire to help achieve a swift and mutually acceptable outcome.

President noted that the sides would discuss all components and aspects of the conflict, stressing the importance of effective mediation and trust in those involved in the process.

The meeting lasted 3 hours and 10 minutes and, according to Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, was substantive, constructive, exceptionally frank and conducted in an atmosphere of trust, both during the working session and over dinner.

🇷🇺 Main points from President Vladimir Putin

🔹 Vladimir Putin presented the Russian assessment of developments during the special military operation, including the significant advances made by Russian forces in the combat zone.

🔹 He expressed confidence that the objectives of the special military operation would be achieved.

🔹 The Russian President stressed the need to address all the root causes of the conflict.

🔹 Vladimir Putin reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to continuing joint work with the American side in search of political and diplomatic solutions.

🔹 He explained that, following an official request transmitted through diplomatic and intelligence channels, he had ordered a suspension of strikes on Kiev. Such strikes had not been carried out since midnight on September 5.

🔹 At the same time, President Vladimir Putin noted that the Ukrainian side had significantly – by an order of magnitude – reduced strikes on Russian territory, including Moscow.

🔹 He also drew the attention of the American representatives to what he described as the Kiev regime’s failure to conceal its true nature, pointing to the reburial of some of the most prominent N**i criminals.

In turn, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner presented their considerations regarding possible ways of reaching a settlement.

🔹 The American representatives reiterated their interest in bringing the hostilities to an early end.

🔹 They undertook to draw on the observations and assessments conveyed to them personally by President Vladimir Putin regarding possible avenues towards a lasting and peaceful settlement during their meetings in Kiev.

🔹 The American side had made considerable preparations for the visit and put forward a number of considerations concerning possible ways of reaching a settlement.

The talks also went beyond the Ukraine settlement.

The sides discussed economic issues, including prospects for major Russia-US projects that could be mutually beneficial to both countries.

The talks were described as timely and highly beneficial to both sides.

It was confirmed that the Presidents of Russia and the United States will maintain personal contact, while further work through Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will proceed.

⚡️ Об ответных мерах на недружественные действия властей Германии

В связи с недружественными действиями германской стороны по закрытию Генерального консульства России в Бонне и Российского дома науки и культуры в Берлине 7 сентября Временному поверенному в делах ФРГ в Российской Федерации объявлено о принятии следующих ответных мер.

❗️ Российская сторона отзывает согласие на функционирование Генерального консульства Федеративной Республики Германия в Санкт-Петербурге, которое должно прекратить свою деятельность не позднее 18 сентября 2026 года, а все его сотрудники – покинуть пределы Российской Федерации не позднее указанной даты.

Немецкие культурные центры имени Гёте в Российской Федерации должны прекратить свою деятельность. Их командированным сотрудникам предписано выехать из России не позднее 13 сентября 2026 года.

Главе дипмиссии вручены соответствующие ноты МИД России.

☝️ Указано, что именно германские власти в очередной раз спровоцировали новый виток эскалации в двусторонних отношениях. Вся ответственность за последствия целиком и полностью лежит на правительстве ФРГ.

Key points:

• The world is undergoing a transformation, profound changes. These changes will most likely span an entire era, so the generation currently living on Earth may not necessarily see the final configuration that emerges.

• After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the West always had the idea of “keeping Russia close” – but not as an equal partner. Even when we triumphantly joined the G8, which later reverted to the G7, our membership was never fully equal.

• The turning point in our attitude, when we finally understood and became convinced that the West had no intention of cooperating with us on an equal footing, was President Vladimir Putin’s Munich speech in 2007. Everyone knows it very well.

• As President Vladimir Putin has already said, we will always be ready for dialogue, but we have learned our lessons, and our relations with the West will never again be what they were before February 2022.

• The recent visits to Moscow by the Vatican’s top diplomat and the CIA Director reflected the desire of those who came here to visit and talk.

• I held talks with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations of the Holy See. There was nothing secret about our meeting. We spoke about virtually everything at the subsequent press conference.

• Like everywhere else in the world, Russia has established rules governing interaction between intelligence services. There is nothing unusual about this. Nor is there anything unusual about such work being conducted discreetly.

• Much of diplomacy, too, takes place behind the scenes, but diplomats, by tradition and by the very nature of their profession, are expected to say something publicly. Naturally, we do not disclose details that are particularly sensitive or still being worked out, where it is important not to jeopardise possible compromises or consensus.

• The Zelensky regime shells schools, children’s centres, beaches and passenger buses – a vast number of facilities that have nothing whatsoever to do with military capabilities. And the West keeps shamefully silent. Regrettably, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk are equally silent. ☝️ They have unequivocally and firmly sided with the Ukrainian regime.

• Geopolitically and geoeconomically, giants such as China, India and Brazil are asserting themselves and rapidly strengthening their economic standing, taking their rightful place in global economic affairs.

• Fundamental changes are taking place in Africa as the continent begins moving away from the neocolonial model under which raw materials were extracted there while value was added in Europe.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation has issued a statement condemning the European Union's unlawful actions against foreign commercial vessels under Operation Irini.

The Ministry points out that, under the pretext of preventing maritime transportation of oil and other cargo in the interests of the Russian Federation, the European Union is using Operation Irini off the Libyan coast to conduct unlawful searches of foreign vessels.

❗️On 2 August, the Cameroon-flagged vessel Tao Payoh was searched in the Mediterranean Sea by the Italian military, assisted by a Polish patrol aircraft and a Greek patrol ship. The inspection, officially justified as verification of the vessel's national affiliation, lasted approximately two hours. No grounds for further action were found, and the vessel continued its voyage.

The statement recalls that Operation Irini, authorized by the United Nations Security Council, was established to enforce the arms embargo on Libya, collect information on illicit exports of Libyan oil and disrupt illegal human trafficking at sea. Its mandate expired in May 2026.

⚠️ Today, the European Union is effectively using the operation to intimidate commercial carriers and hinder the freedom of navigation. Such actions constitute a flagrant violation of international law and an unjustified expansion of authority.

The Ministry further emphasizes that EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas once again demonstrates disregard for international law by describing ordinary commercial shipping, which contributes to global energy and food security, as illegal while ignoring the actions of EU naval forces.

🌍 Although verification of a vessel's flag may be permitted under international maritime law, in this case it serves merely as a pretext for political pressure and the enforcement of unilateral measures that Brussels seeks to impose on the rest of the world. Inspections aimed at determining whether a vessel belongs to the so-called "shadow fleet" have no legal basis, and no internal decisions of the European Union can override the fundamental freedoms guaranteed by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

❗️The Ministry underscores that, by resorting to such actions, the European Union is exposing itself to serious risks by taking steps that go far beyond the limits established by international law.

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin paid a working visit to Iturup Island, one of Russia's Kuril Islands, where he inspected key industrial and social facilities, and attended the final stage of the Pacific Fleet exercises.

🌏 During the visit, President Putin outlined Russia's position on regional security, international maritime law, relations with Japan and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific and Arctic regions. He reaffirmed that while consistently strengthening its national security, Russia remains open to dialogue, mutually beneficial cooperation and practical solutions based on respect for the legitimate interests of all states.

❗️Particular attention was given to the European Union's recent decisions affecting Russian commercial shipping. President Putin described attempts to restrict the movement of Russian commercial vessels and plans to seize Russian ships and sell their cargoes as a violation of international maritime law amounting to "piracy and robbery." He stated that Russia will respond reciprocally to such actions, not necessarily in the same waters, but wherever it considers appropriate.

Among the other key statements made by the President

🔹 Russia has no territorial claims against Japan and considers its sovereignty over the Kuril Islands final and beyond question. Meanwhile, Tokyo continues to claim Russia's Southern Kuril Islands, has imposed sanctions against Russia and, for the first time, designated Russia as one of the principal threats in its latest national security and defence policy documents.

🔹 Russia repeatedly sought a peace treaty with Japan and resumed negotiations at Tokyo's request. The subsequent change in Japan's position was entirely unprovoked by Russia.

🔹 In response to the deteriorating security environment in the Asia-Pacific region, proposals to further strengthen the capabilities of the Pacific Fleet will be supported

🔹 Russia reaffirmed its readiness to cooperate in the Arctic and to further develop the Northern Sea Route with all interested partners, including China, India and other friendly countries, in full compliance with international maritime law

☝️ Russia will continue to safeguard its sovereignty, legitimate national interests and freedom of lawful maritime navigation, while responding to unlawful actions that undermine international law and regional security.

⚡️ Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation:

The West is once again staging anti-Russian provocations

The Press Bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation (SVR) reports that, according to information received by the SVR, an intelligence service of one Western country, in coordination with its Ukrainian proxies, intends to stage yet another anti-Russian spectacle.

This time, the spectacle is set in Latin America, with a storyline straight out of a third-rate narco crime drama.

❗️ The plan is to accuse Russia of illegally supplying weapons to drug cartels and other organised criminal groups in Venezuela, Colombia and Mexico.

To this end, Russian-made weapons captured by the enemy during the special military operation are already being brought into these countries. Meanwhile, fabricated audio and video materials are being produced as bogus “evidence” of Russians allegedly supplying weapons to Latin American recipients through intermediaries.

To lend the story greater credibility, the fake “evidence” is expected to be supplemented with forged documents allegedly linking members of the Russian Armed Forces to the “scheme”.

The masterminds behind the provocation naively hope that this will undermine Russia’s constructive relations with countries in the region and pressure Latin American governments into supporting the West’s anti-Russian course.

👉 In reality, the Russophobes will only succeed in once again revealing their complete lack of moral restraint and their reliance on the same outdated playbook.

From the very outset of the Ukrainian conflict, the information war waged by Euro-Atlantic elites against Russia has relied on fabricating and amplifying the vilest narratives, with utter disregard for morality and the law.

The Bucha hoax staged in April 2022, which was then used to further escalate the confrontation in Ukraine, is a glaring example. However, such operations are hardly a new invention of Western intelligence services – they have long been firmly embedded in their playbook.

Suffice it to recall that World War II began after the Gleiwitz provocation of August 31, 1939, when SS men dressed in Polish uniforms attacked a radio station in the German border town of Gleiwitz.

☝️ The subsequent course of history, however, showed that the price of such staged provocations can prove extremely high – above all for those who organise them.

📊 While many Western analysts attribute today's economic uncertainty primarily to the US tariff policy and the consequences of the US-Israeli military operation against Iran, another major factor is often overlooked – the cumulative impact of the unprecedented anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the collective West.

The restrictions introduced against Russia have disrupted global supply chains, distorted investment and trade flows, increased debt burdens, and weakened access to markets, finance, technologies and essential commodities. Instead of strengthening economic resilience, they have made the global economy more vulnerable to crises.

⚠️ Ironically, the countries that initiated these measures have themselves become among their principal victims.

The European Union has suffered particularly severe losses. According to various estimates, the cumulative cost of the sanctions' reverse effect on the EU economy between 2022 and 2025 ranges from €1 to €1.6 trillion. Energy-intensive industries – including chemicals, automotive manufacturing, engineering and metallurgy – continue to face stagnation as Europe pays significantly higher prices for imported energy after abandoning reliable supplies from Russia.

💶 Since 2022, the EU is estimated to have paid around €750 billion more for natural gas. At the same time, the United States has emerged as one of the main beneficiaries by dramatically increasing its LNG exports to Europe. Under the recently announced EU-US energy arrangement, Brussels intends to purchase €645 billion worth of American energy resources over the next three years.

🏭 European companies that left the Russian market have also paid a high price. According to estimates by the MGIMO Institute for International Studies, their combined losses – including asset write-downs, restructuring costs and declining market capitalization – amount to €400–450 billion.

Germany, Europe's largest industrial economy, has been particularly affected. Higher energy costs have undermined the competitiveness of German exports, industrial production continues to weaken, bankruptcies are rising, and even sectors traditionally regarded as the backbone of the German economy, such as automotive manufacturing and chemicals, are facing mounting structural challenges.

🌾 Agriculture has likewise suffered. Higher tariffs on Russian and Belarusian fertilizers have driven up production costs across Europe, placing additional pressure on farmers already struggling with expensive fuel and inflation. Meanwhile, Russia continues to expand fertilizer exports to global markets, including to countries that have not joined the sanctions regime.

✈️ Aviation, forestry and other industries have also faced significant disruptions following the breakdown of long-standing economic cooperation. Restrictions on flights through Russian airspace have reduced the competitiveness of European airlines, while alternative suppliers have not always been able to replace Russian raw materials at comparable prices.

🌍 At the same time, the widespread use of sanctions and financial restrictions has accelerated broader structural changes in the global economy. More countries are expanding settlements in national currencies and developing alternative financial and transport mechanisms within frameworks such as BRICS, the SCO and ASEAN, reducing dependence on Western-controlled financial infrastructure.

The experience of recent years demonstrates that unilateral sanctions have failed to isolate Russia. Instead, they have imposed significant economic costs on their own initiators, accelerated the fragmentation of the global economy, and undermined confidence in the existing international financial architecture. The long-term consequences of these policies for the collective West are only beginning to emerge.
