B’sogħba kbira tħabbret il-mewt tal-"Major”, wieħed mill-aktar residenti magħrufa u ikoniċi tal-lokalità tagħna. 🕊️

Il-"Major" kien persuna magħrufa ħafna fost ir-residenti Slimiżi, wiċċ familjari li kont issibu kważi f’kull festa, attività u avveniment organizzat fil-lokalità tagħna, dejjem idur fit-toroq ta’ Tas-Sliema li tant kien iħobb. 🩵💙

Il-Kunsill Lokali ta’ Tas-Sliema jagħti l-kondoljanzi sinċieri lill-familja, qraba u ħbieb tiegħu kollha.

🚧🛣️ Progress on Depiro Street Road Works 🛣️🚧

Earlier today, the first layer of tarmac was successfully laid on the first section of Depiro Street (from Manuel Dimech street to St Francis street) as works continue steadily on one of Sliema’s longest streets.

Works on the remaining sections of the street will continue next week, with the aim of placing the final layer of tarmac across the entire road by the end of May, thus concluding this major infrastructural project which also included the reconstruction of pavements and upgrading of underground services.

These works are being carried out in collaboration with and the (WSC).

We thank residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation throughout these important works, which will continue to improve the infrastructure and accessibility of the area for years to come.

🏛️🌊 100 Years of the Iconic Sliema Chalet 🌊🏛️

This year marks 100 years since the opening of the iconic Sliema Chalet at Għar id-Dud, a landmark that remains deeply connected to the memories, identity, and history of our locality.

For generations, the Chalet was more than just a building. It was a meeting place, a social hub, and part of the unique character that shaped seaside life in Sliema throughout the years.

Many still remember the golden days of the Chalet overlooking the beautiful Mediterranean, becoming one of the most recognised and beloved symbols of Sliema.

Today, as we commemorate this centenary, we celebrate not only the historical landmark, but also the countless memories shared by generations of Slimiżi and visitors alike.

A century later, the story and legacy of the Sliema Chalet continue to live on. 🩵💙

It is very important that glass is taken out in a container that can be reused ☺️

Once the glass is collected the container must be taken back indoors 🙌

🚧 Update - Tarmac Works - Triq Depiro 🚧

The Sliema Local Council would like to inform residents that tarmac works in Triq Depiro are progressing according to the scheduled programme of works.

Please note that until the scarifying works are completed, garage owners who's property lies in Triq Depiro (between Triq Manwel Dimech and Triq San Frangisk) will not have access to their garages.

We thank all residents for their cooperation, patience, and understanding during these works.

The Sliema Community Police continue to carry out daily patrols and operations across various parts of the locality, helping maintain order, improve safety, and strengthen community presence on our streets.

Through regular patrols, enforcement, and direct engagement with residents and businesses, the Community Police play an important role in addressing issues related to public order, traffic, illegalities, and quality of life in Sliema.

The Sliema Local Council remains committed to supporting the Community Police and strengthening collaboration for the benefit of our residents and visitors.
