🏊‍♂️ What a match! Congratulations to Malta on a hard-fought victory over Australia in the opening game of the World Aquatics 4×4 Championships.

Of course, we would have loved to see the 🇦🇺 come away with the win... but if Australia had to lose to anyone, we're glad it was our friends in Malta. 🇦🇺🤝🇲🇹

Well played to both teams, and best of luck for the rest of the tournament! 🇲🇹 🇦🇺

The tournament is being played in a different format, with both teams fielding four players, and the winner of the match is decided by which team wins the most sessions during the match.

💜 Purple is definitely the colour of the day!

The Australian High Commission team wore purple to work as part of Wear It Purple Day 2026 in support of LGBTQIA+ young people and celebrating inclusion, diversity and belonging.

This year's theme, Colours of Courage, celebrates the many ways LGBTQIA+ people, allies and communities demonstrate courage every day. Wear It Purple Day is a global movement dedicated to creating safer, more inclusive environments where young people can be proud of who they are and hopeful about their future. Established in response to the harmful effects of bullying and harassment, the movement continues to encourage acceptance, understanding and respect.

As an original signatory to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, Australia has long championed the promotion and protection of human rights, including those of LGBTQIA+ persons.

Today, and every day, the Australian High Commission is proud to stand with LGBTQIA+ communities in Malta, Australia and around the world. 💜🌈

From Sydney to Valletta, contemporary art has the power to connect people, ideas and cultures. A visit to MICAS offers an opportunity to engage with contemporary art, much like Australia's Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA Australia), with both institutions showcasing innovative and thought-provoking works from leading artists around the world. Through arts and culture, institutions such as MICAS and MCA Australia help build bridges between communities, encouraging dialogue, creativity and reflection on shared experiences.

Australia is proudly taking strong action to protect the Great Barrier Reef and support global efforts to build resilient coral reefs.

In good news, the World Heritage Committee recently considered the State of Conservation of the Great Barrier Reef, recognising Australia’s continued commitment and collaborative efforts to protect the Reef through action on:
🪸 climate change
🌊 water quality
🐠 sustainable fisheries management
⭐ Crown-of-Thorns Starfish control

Australia continues to share its world-leading reef management and restoration expertise internationally to support global efforts to protect coral reefs.
This includes sharing knowledge and tools developed through the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program, one of world’s largest programs to develop and deploy large-scale climate adaptation projects on the Reef.

Climate change is the biggest threat for reefs worldwide. Collaboration and innovation will be key in ensuring the resilience of coral reefs into the future.

On World Humanitarian Day, we honour humanitarian workers around the world who risk everything to help people in crisis.
Humanity depends on humanitarian action.

Last year, 350 aid workers were killed while delivering life-saving assistance to those who need it most.

Australia, alongside the Ministerial Group, is advancing the Declaration for the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel to uphold international law, better protect aid workers and strengthen accountability.
