We’re proud to be part of the European Film Festival 2026, returning to Valletta for its sixth edition with ten contemporary European films presented by members of the EUNIC Malta network and European partners.

As part of this year’s festival, the Embassy of the Netherlands is pleased to present a free screening of 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑮𝒊𝒓𝒍𝒔 - a gripping drama set against the stunning backdrop of the Austrian Alps, where an idyllic holiday takes an unexpected and life-changing turn.

The festival is brought to you by EUNIC Malta, the local cluster of the European Union National Institutes for Culture. Last week, we also said goodbye to Gillian, who completed her 6-month internship with our Embassy. 🌻

Throughout her time with us, Gillian showed great dedication to her work and will be fondly remembered by the team for her hard work and can-do spirit.

Today we bid farewell to Ambassador Djoeke Adimi, who is off on her new journey as Consul General in São Paulo, Brazil! ✨

Since joining the Embassy in 2022, Ambassador Adimi has brought remarkable enthusiasm and rigour to her role. Her leadership and commitment have made a lasting impact on our team.

☀ This week, as we weather the summer heat in Malta, we found ourselves thinking about two of the most evocative words in the Dutch and Maltese languages. 🤔

🇳🇱❤️ In the Netherlands, we often talk about a place or a moment being 𝒈𝒆𝒛𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒈. It's more than cosy; it can describe a cute café, a warm family gathering, or simply enjoying the company of your loved ones. It's less about where you are and more about how it feels.

🇲🇹🤌 In Malta, everybody's favourite word seems to be 𝒎𝒆𝒍𝒂. A word so famous it almost feels like a rite of passage to learn it and has even become a local meme. Its meaning is so versatile that it changes with the situation, making it one of the most common words used.

Different words, different meanings, yet both capture a unique feeling that simply can't be translated, but stays with you anyway.

Happy International Day for Women in Diplomacy!

Today, the Embassy of the Netherlands and the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs Malta marked the International Day for Women in Diplomacy with ‘Making Connections: Strengthening Women’s Participation in Diplomacy’ - an afternoon of roundtable conversations between female diplomats and students from across Malta.

Female ambassadors, deputies and diplomats from diplomatic missions across Malta and the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs Malta took part in five rounds of ten-minute conversations with students, exchanging questions, experiences and stories about what a career in diplomacy really looks like. Because the more visible women in diplomacy are, the easier it becomes for the next generation to follow.

To the students who joined us: we hope you leave with new insights, new contacts, and maybe a clearer sense of where you want to go. To our diplomats: thank you for your honesty, your stories and your time! 🌍👩‍💼💬
