STATEMENT BY THE PARTIT NAZZJONALISTA – 16/06/2026
A PARLIAMENTARY GROUP MADE UP OF MPS WHO BRING TOGETHER EXPERIENCE AND NEW ENERGY TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE GOOD OF THE COUNTRY
The new PN Parliamentary Group meets for the first time – Partit Nazzjonalista Leader Alex Borg announces the appointment of Ivan Castillo as Whip of the Parliamentary Group
Following the conclusion this morning of the electoral process, with casual elections held to fill the Parliamentary seats vacated by candidates who were elected on behalf of the PN from two districts in the general election of 30 May, and with the gender balance mechanism also coming into effect, the new Parliamentary Group of the Partit Nazzjonalista, led by PN Leader Alex Borg, met for the first time this evening.
The PN Leader congratulated all elected MPs and thanked them for choosing to serve, while also expressing his gratitude to the candidates who were not elected and appealing to them to continue feeling part of the Partit Nazzjonalista. He said he is proud of the new PN Parliamentary Group, which brings together a mix of experienced individuals and new faces, including young people elected for the first time, who will bring new energy that will contribute to the good of the country.
Alex Borg announced that MP Ivan Castillo has been appointed Whip of the Nationalist Parliamentary Group, while, as part of a restructuring of the way the Nationalist Parliamentary Group functions, two Deputy Whips and a Secretary of the Parliamentary Group will be appointed for the first time in the coming days.
Alex Borg appealed to all MPs to remain in contact with people, not on the eve of an election, but from now. He said that, even from the feedback the PN is receiving after the election, the element that stands out most is the need for the Partit Nazzjonalista, even in Opposition, to remain close to people at all times.
The new Parliamentary Group of the Partit Nazzjonalista includes 13 new Members of Parliament. It also includes 12 female MPs, four of whom were elected for the first time. This is also testament to the renewal process the Partit Nazzjonalista is undergoing, a process that is expected to continue strengthening it so that it can become the alternative government our country needs.
The new Parliamentary Group will be sworn in next Saturday during the first Parliamentary sitting of this legislature. While the Partit Nazzjonalista will have a Parliamentary Group made up of 37 Members of Parliament, the Labour Party will have a group of 42 Members of Parliament.
Then, on Wednesday 24 June, the PN General Council will meet to launch the process for the confirmation or appointment of the PN Leader following the general election, as provided for in the PN Statute. The Council will follow the Regional Assemblies being held this week in Malta and Gozo.
