▪️ L-Erbgħa filgħaxija, fil-Palazz ta’ Sant’Anton, saret ċerimonja li kkommemorat il-50 anniversarju mit-twaqqif tal-AŻAD; l- Akkademja għall-Iżvilupp tal-Ambjent Demokratiku fi ħdan il-Partit Nazzjonalista.

Fi tmiem is-serata, il-President irċeviet donazzjoni mingħand it-tmexxija tal-AŻAD, b’risq il-ħidma tal-Malta Community Chest Fund.

▪️ On Wednesday evening, at the San Anton Palace, AŻAD; the Academy for the Development of the Democratic Environment within the Nationalist Party, organised a commemorative ceremony on the 50th anniversary of its establishment.

During the ceremony, the President received a donation from the leadership of AŻAD, in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund.

50 YEARS OF AŻAD - CELEBRATING DEMOCRACY, DIALOGUE AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
On 9th September 2026, we had the honour of commemorating the 50th anniversary of AŻAD - Academy for the Development of a Democratic Environment, at San Anton Palace, under the distinguished patronage of Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta.

The event was honoured by the presence of Dr Alex Borg, Leader of the Opposition and Nationalist Party Leader, Dr Alex Perici Calascione, Deputy Leader of the Nationalist Party, and former Prime Minister Dr Lawrence Gonzi.

Also present were party officials, including Mr Charles Bonello, Secretary General, and Mark Anthony Sammut MP, PN Council President, together with MPs, former Presidents and Administrators of AŻAD, distinguished guests, lecturers and friends of the Academy.

The evening provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate five decades of AŻAD's contribution to democracy, political education and training, dialogue and civil engagement, while reflecting on the important role of the Academy has played in the defence of democracy and political awareness.

We extend our sincere gratitude for the valued support of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Rom and the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies, whose commitment to democratic education, European values and political development continues to be greatly appreciated.

Our sincere appreciation goes to Her Excellency the President, the Leader of the Opposition and the Nationalist Party, guests, lecturers, MPs, party officials, friends and everyone who joined us on this special occasion.

Today marked the successful conclusion of the training programme “Agħmel Pass ’Il Quddiem” – an empowering initiative for women in politics and public life, organised by MNPN with the support of AZAD.
The final session, held at Dar Ċentrali, focused on Campaign Strategy, Practice & Graduation, giving participants the opportunity to put into practice all the skills they have developed throughout the programme while strengthening their networks.
Participants were divided into four groups, where they presented and discussed policy proposals which were then put forward to the Nationalist Party in the presence of Charles Bonello, Secretary General, and Prof. George Vital Zammit, Coordinator of the Nationalist Party Electoral Programme.
The morning kicked off with an insightful session on Campaign Management & Strategy with the participation of Simon Vella Gregory among others.
The programme concluded with a graduation and networking session, including closing remarks by Charles Bonello, Secretary General, and Dr. Alex Borg, Nationalist Party Leader.
A big well done to all participants for their dedication and commitment throughout this journey. The future of women in politics and public life continues to grow stronger 💪

Week 3 of the MNPN training programme for women interested in public life and politics, organised in collaboration with the AZAD Foundation.
Participants engaged in insightful sessions led by distinguished speakers: Dr Therese Comodini Cachia discussed the legislative process and governance, Dr George Vital Zammit explored ethical leadership and decision-making, while Prof. Tonio Borg shared reflections on the history of the Nationalist Party, its key milestones, and its contributions to gender equality.
Through initiatives like this, we continue to support and empower more women to step forward, lead, and play an active role in decision-making in public life.
