This autumn, the National Library of Malta, in collaboration with the Malta Classics Association, will organise the ninth edition of its Public Lecture Series, titled ‘Secular Threads: Greek and Latin Culture in Later Print’.

The general public is invited to attend these lectures, which will be delivered in English at the National Library of Malta in Valletta. All lectures commence at 6.30pm. Entrance is free, and no booking is required. For more information, contact [email protected]

The National Library of Malta is pleased to announce its ninth Public Lecture Series, Secular Threads: Greek and Latin Culture in Later Print organised in partnership with the Malta Classics Association.

Running from October 2026 to May 2027, Secular Threads explores the secular side of Greek and Latin classical literature in later print, bringing together perspectives from a range of academic fields.

The National Library had the pleasure of welcoming Laurent Molvost, Municipal Councillor of L’Isle-Adam, France, accompanied by his wife and representative from Visit Malta.

During their visit, Mr Molvost was fascinated by the rich heritage and treasures preserved at the National Library, particularly the Deed of Donation — the historic charter signed by Emperor Charles V, granting the islands of Malta and Gozo, as well as Tripoli, to the Order of St John.

Dating from 1530, this remarkable document officially marked the beginning of the Order’s 250-year presence in Malta and remains an important testament to the islands’ history and heritage.

It was a wonderful opportunity to share Malta’s fascinating history and cultural treasures with our visitors. 🇲🇹📚✨

Reflecting on last week’s memorable 9th International Military Orders Conference 2026, held in Malta for the first time! Our Deputy Librarian Michelle Buhagiar attended alongside colleagues Jeremy Debono and Maria Attard, taking part in sessions and engaging with this fascinating event.

A quick reminder about our ongoing exhibition, Cor Unum, Multiplicia Nomina: Rethinking the Langue of Italy in Contexts. The exhibition runs until 20th November — don’t miss the chance to explore!

📚 Secular Threads: Greek and Latin Culture in Later Print

The National Library of Malta, in partnership with the Malta Classics Association, presents its 9th Public Lecture Series, exploring the enduring legacy of the Classical world.

From October 2026 to May 2027, join us for eight fascinating lectures by leading scholars and speakers. Highlights include Petrarch, Dante & Machiavelli, Shakespeare and the Classics, Vergil & Horace, Dante’s Classical Demons, Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Ulysses in Italian Literature, Homer in Malta, and the mystery of Sappho.
