The Great Siege of Malta, 1565: An Epic Poem (Joseph L. Zerafa)
Background: Written between 1980 and 1981 by Żurrieq teacher and poet Joseph L. Zerafa (1917–1985), this colossal work contains over 1,000 stanzas. It remained unpublished during his lifetime but was brought to print by his family and Heritage Malta.
Content: It traces the entire four-month saga—the overwhelming Ottoman armada, the heroic last stand at Fort St. Elmo, and Grand Master Jean Parisot de Valette’s ultimate victory.
