On 30 July 2026, Mauritius and the United Kingdom signed the Enhanced Strategic Trade Partnership (ESTP), marking an important milestone in the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
The Agreement was signed by the Honourable Dhananjay Ramful, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, and H.E. Paul Brummell CMG, British High Commissioner to Mauritius. It reflects the shared commitment of both countries to deepen trade, investment and economic cooperation, while creating new opportunities for businesses and investors.
The United Kingdom is one of Mauritius' most important economic partners. In 2025, Mauritius recorded its highest-ever level of UK Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), reaching MUR 19.5 billion (approximately £308 million), underscoring the growing confidence of British investors in Mauritius. Bilateral trade also remains strong, with a total of MUR 13.5 billion (£213 million) of goods traded between the two countries in 2025, Mauritian exports to the UK amounting to MUR 7.5 billion making the UK among the top 5 export markets. The UK's close ties with Mauritius are further reflected by nearly 155,000 British tourist arrivals in 2025. A growing number of British professionals are also employed in various economic sectors like financial services, ICT, hospitality, knowledge, etc. British businesses have also established a strong presence in Mauritius, particularly in the financial services, ICT and education sectors, further demonstrating the depth and diversity of the bilateral economic relationship.
The Economic Development Board Mauritius is proud to support the implementation of this strategic partnership, which will strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors in areas such as the Green and Blue Economy, Healthcare and Life Sciences, Education, Financial and Professional Services, and Digital Transformation.
We look forward to working with our partners in Mauritius and the United Kingdom to translate this shared vision into concrete projects, stronger business partnerships and sustainable economic growth. The signing ceremony brought together Ministers, members of the Diplomatic Corps, senior Government officials, and representatives of the private sector from both countries.
