The Mauritius Institute of Biotechnology Ltd (MIBL), in collaboration with Colossal Biosciences, is inviting applications for an exciting international fellowship opportunity in avian genome engineering and conservation biotechnology.

About the Opportunity:
Join a pioneering bioscience company using cutting-edge technologies like CRISPR to advance conservation, including projects such as the Dodo de-extinction. This fellowship offers hands-on experience in genome engineering, molecular biology, and avian trait modification, while contributing to global conservation efforts.

📍 Location: Dallas, Texas, USA
⏳ Duration: 3–4 months (USA Summer 2026)
💼 Team: Colossal Biosciences
💰 Remuneration: USD 25-45/hour (40 hrs/week), depending on the qualification and experiences.
✈️ Airfare: Fully covered
Eligibility:
• Must be a Mauritian citizen, currently enrolled in, or have graduated within the past year from, an undergraduate or master’s programme, or currently pursuing a PhD.
• Demonstrated academic research experience in molecular biology or related fields
• Hands-on experience with molecular cloning, PCR, RNA work, and qPCR
• Interest or exposure to genome editing technologies (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9) is an advantage

The Clinical Trial Unit (CTU) under the Metabolic, Advanced Cardiac Imaging and Research Division has been officially launched at the Trust Fund for Specialised Medical Care, Pamplemousses.

This milestone marks a major leap forward for evidence-based medicine and innovation in Mauritius. By facilitating high-quality, locally relevant research, the CTU will not only improve patient outcomes but also position Mauritius as a regional leader in clinical and translational research.

The Mauritius Institute of Biotechnology Ltd was actively engaged in the crucial Pre-Consultative Dialogues for 'Les Assises de l'Océan' held from October 7-18, 2025. This national consultation is vital for shaping Mauritius's future Blue Economy strategy. MIBL played a key role in discussions around Research, Development, ICT and Innovation:

Mrs. Nandini Gooly Gopalla, Officer in Charge at MIBL delivered an insightful opening address, setting the stage for integrating R&D and innovation into the national ocean policy.

Dr. Nowsheen Goonoo, Research Officer, was a speaker, presenting on "Marine Biotechnology and Bioeconomy Innovation" under the 'Marine Biotechnology and Commercialisation and Legal Framework' session. Her contribution emphasized the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.

The session was expertly moderated by Dr. Devina Lobine, Research Officer at MIBL.
