❤️🩹 What would you do if someone suddenly needed help?
At work.
At home.
On the street.
Knowing First Aid can make the difference between panic… and action.
During our visit to , WOMESA members had the privilege of receiving a short but powerful briefing from Sam, Chief Fire Officer, on essential First Aid and CPR techniques.
First aid is not only about performing medical procedures.
It is also about knowing what to do in the first critical moments before professional help arrives.
One key reminder from the session was how important it is to call emergency services correctly.
In Mauritius, the emergency medical service SAMU can be reached by dialling:
📞 1 – 1 – 4
(not “one hundred and fourteen” — simply one one four).
Providing clear and accurate information is essential:
🪪 Your name
📍 The exact location of the incident
🩺 What has happened to the casualty
👥 How many people are involved
This allows emergency responders to reach the scene quickly and prepared, without losing precious time.
Members were also introduced to the basics of CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) and how to help unblock an airway — knowledge that can be useful both professionally and in everyday life.
Once the discussion started, the session became so interesting that no one was watching the clock.
Unfortunately, time was limited and we had to end the session sooner than we wished — but it certainly reminded us how valuable this knowledge is.
A sincere thank you to Sam, Chief Fire Officer, and to for sharing this important expertise.
This moment of learning also reflects the spirit of International Women’s Day 2026 – .
When knowledge is shared, we gain the ability to protect and support one another.
