World Elder Abuse Awareness Day**

As populations age in both 🇲🇺 Mauritius and 🇸🇨 Seychelles, on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day we recognise that protecting the dignity and rights of older persons is more urgent than ever.

- In Mauritius, about 20% of the population is already aged 60+.
- In Seychelles, almost 9% are 65+, with life expectancy at 73 years.

Together with Governments and partners, United Nations in Mauritius and Seychelles is advancing social protection, universal health coverage, and community support. These key priorities are set out in each country's respective Cooperation Framework.

Elder abuse can lead to serious distress and harm, including physical injury and long-term psychological consequences. But it is preventable, and everyone can play a role in protecting older persons.

Recognizing the signs, identifying vulnerable community members, and taking action can make a difference.

The Danny Faure Foundation Seychelles marked with a vibrant Ocean Fair, bringing together government partners, various NGOs, academia including University of Seychelles and blue economy entrepreneurs.

From interactive exhibits to engaging talks and ocean-inspired products, the event showcased innovation and opportunity—while drawing enthusiastic participation from schoolchildren and the wider public 🐟 🪸 🌍

With highlights on emerging initiatives and aquaculture research, the fair reflected a growing national commitment to protecting our oceans and building a sustainable blue future 💙
