MODERN LINK arrives at Port Louis Harbour!

The vehicle carrier MODERN LINK made its official maiden call at Port Louis Harbour on 20 September 2025. The vessel arrived from Hambantota, Sri Lanka, and berthed at Quay 2 for cargo operations. 13 vehicles were successfully unloaded from the vehicle carrier, which later proceeded to Durban.

MODERN LINK is a Panama-flagged vehicle carrier operated by NYK RoRo and was built in the year 2000. It measures 164 metres in overall length.

This port call marks the outcome of a strategic initiative between Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Japan) and the Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA). Earlier this month, during a courtesy visit to the MPA held at the H. Ramnarain Building, the NYK Japan management team along with representatives of its agent, Celero Ltd., formally announced their intention to include Port Louis Harbour as a regular port of call and to consider Port Louis as a transshipment port for vehicles.

This development is a significant step as NYK aims to position Mauritius as a key hub for crew changes, cargo transshipment, and documentation services in the Indian Ocean region. The MPA welcomes this partnership, emphasising its importance in reinforcing Mauritius’ role as a regional maritime and logistics centre. This collaboration aligns with the MPA’s long-term vision to enhance port operations and strengthen Mauritius as a maritime hub.

Cruise season 2025-2026!

On the morning of 7th September 2025, Port Louis harbour proudly welcomed Pacific World, the very first cruise ship to mark the beginning of the 2025-2026 cruise season in Mauritius. She last called at the Port of Singapore before making her way to our shores.

Formerly known as Sun Princess and now operated by Peace Boat, this impressive vessel was built in 1995 and measures 261 metres in length. She can accommodate around 2016 passengers, supported by a crew of approximately 924. The vessel was represented by IBL Shipping as the agent. As the largest ship to ever sail under the Peace Boat banner, Pacific World brings both history and grandeur as she launches this new cruise season.

The vessel carried 1731 people on board, of which around 800 went on excursions organised by the tour operator Hello Islands.

Having set sail the same evening for Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Pacific World leaves behind a promising start to the cruise season. Mauritius is set to welcome around 50 cruise vessels this cruise season, carrying approximately 60,000 passengers. This influx will not only strengthen our tourism industry but also reinforce our island’s role as a premier cruise destination in the Indian Ocean.
