Chief Executive Hisan Hassan met with Dr. Ivana Vuco, Regional Disaster and Humanitarian Advisor for the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Disaster and Humanitarian Response (DHR).

Discussions focused on the Maldives disaster management framework, emerging challenges, and opportunities to strengthen regional cooperation, partnerships, and technical assistance in disaster risk management.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of collaboration in advancing disaster preparedness, resilience, and effective emergency response efforts.

ޖަޕާނު ސަރުކާރުގެ ހިލޭ އެހީގެ ދަށުން ކުރިއަށްގެންދާ "އިކޮނޮމިކް އެންޑް ސޯޝަލް ޑިވެލޮޕްމަންޓް ޕްރޮޖެކްޓް" ގެ ތެރެއިން، ފެންބޮޑުވުމުގެ ކާރިސާތަކުން ރައްކާތެރިވުމަށް ޖަޕާން ސަރުކާރުން ހަދިޔާކުރި ފެންހިއްކާ ޕަންޕުތައް ފަސް ރަށެއްގެ ކައުންސިލާ އެން.ޑީ.އެމް.އޭ އިން ހަވާލުކޮށްފި. އެ ރަށްތަކަކީ ރ. އިނގުރައިދޫ، ކ. ކާށިދޫ، މ. މުލައް، އއ. ފެރިދޫ އަދި ތ. ކަނޑޫދޫ އެވެ.
މި މަޝްރޫޢުގެ ފުރަތަމަ ފިޔަވަހީގެ ދަށުން ލިބިފައިވާ 40 ޕަންޕު، ފުރަތަމަ ބުރުގައި 20 ރަށަކަށް (ކޮންމެ ރަށަކަށް 2 ޕަންޕާއި އެކްސެސެރީޒް) ބެހުމަށް ވަނީ ހަމަޖެހިފައެވެ. މި ރަށްތައް ކަނޑައެޅުމުގައި ބަލާފައިވަނީ، މީގެ ކުރިން މި އޮތޯރިޓީން ޕަންޕު ފޯރުކޮށްދީފައިނުވާ ރަށްތަކުގެ ތެރެއިން، ފާއިތުވި އަހަރުތަކުގައި އާންމުކޮށް ފެންބޮޑުވުމުގެ ހާދިސާތައް ކުރިމަތިވެ ރިޕޯޓްކުރާ ރަށްތަކަށް ބަލައިގެން.
މި މަޝްރޫޢަކީ ކާރިސާތަކަށް އިޖާބަދިނުމުގެ ކަންކަން އަތޮޅުތެރޭގައި ހަރުދަނާކޮށް، ވިލުންތެރި ރާއްޖެއެއް ބިނާކުރުމަށް ރައީސުލްޖުމްހޫރިއްޔާ ޑރ. މުޙައްމަދު މުޢިއްޒު ގެންގުޅުއްވާ ސިޔާސަތުތަކުގެ ދަށުން، އެން.ޑީ.އެމް.އޭ އިން ކުރިއަށްގެންދާ މުހިންމު މަސައްކަތެކެވެ.

ދެވަނަ ބުރުގައި ޕަންޕު ފޯރުކޮށްދެވޭނެ ރަށްތަކަކީ ހއ. އިހަވަންދޫ، ހއ.ދިއްދޫ، ހއ.އުލިގަން، ހދ.ނެއްލައިދޫ، ނ.މާފަރު، ރ.ފައިނު، ބ.ކުޑަރިކިލު، ޅ.ނައިފަރު، ކ.ގާފަރު، ތ.ބުރުނީ، ދ.ހުޅުދެލި، ފ.މަގޫދޫ، ފ.ބިލެއްދޫ، ގދ.ހޯޑެއްދޫ، ގދ.ކަނޑުހުޅުދޫ.

The Maldives and the United States continue to deepen cooperation in emergency preparedness and disaster resilience through the Interagency Emergency Management Workshop June 8-11, which kicked off today. The 4-day workshop brings together first responders and partner agencies to enhance coordination, preparedness, and response capabilities for emergencies and disasters.
Organised collaboratively by the NDMA, MNDF and the United States Government through Center for Excellence in Disaster Management & Humanitarian Assistance (CFE-DM), Montana National Guard(MTNG) and Department of State’s Bureau of Disaster and Humanitarian Response (DHR), the workshop focuses on interagency coordination, incident management, strategic communications, and scenario-based emergency response planning.
Together, we continue building a safer, more resilient Maldives through coordination on preparedness and response.

CE Hisan Hassan represented NDMA Maldives at the IORA Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Cooperation initiative in the Indian Ocean Region, held in Cape Town, South Africa, from 1–5 June 2026.

He also contributed as a panellist during the session “Shared Risks, Shared Responses? Insights from SIDS”, sharing the perspectives from Maldives on strengthening regional disaster preparedness, operational coordination, and response mechanisms for SIDS.

Discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination arrangements, enhancing information sharing mechanisms, and improving rapid damage and needs assessment processes to support more robust regional HADR cooperations among IORA Member States.
