Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has collected over K50 billion in Value Added Tax (VAT) in the month of May alone through electronic invoicing system (EIS).

Manager for Taxpayer Education at MRA, Wadza Otomani, told Zodiak Online today that they are collecting over 2 billion kwacha of VAT a day, through the new system and that they are able to trace the money they were losing.

"Despite resistance from some business owners, blackout and internet problems, there is a huge improvement in tax collection since introduction of EIS" said Otomani

Economic Expert Christopher Mbukwa, has advised government to utilize the money in addressing challenges affecting Malawians.
