INTERFACE WITH WORLD BANK COUNTRY MANAGER FIRAS RAAD
Friends,
This morning, I had the pleasure of receiving a courtesy call from the new World Bank Country Manager, Firas Raad, at my office. He was pleased to hear about the strides our Ministry, established in 2022 under the visionary leadership of His Excellency President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, is making toward achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 6.
I expressed gratitude for the World Bank’s continued support as we build the necessary institutional framework for efficient operations. Currently, we are implementing over USD 500 million worth of World Bank-supported projects, including the Malawi Watershed Services Improvement Project (MWASIP), aimed at promoting sustainable landscape management, the Malawi Resilience Disaster Risk Management Project (MRDRMP) focused on post-disaster recovery, and the Lilongwe and Blantyre Water and Sanitation projects, which are enhancing access to clean water and sanitation services in both cities.
We look forward to strengthening our partnership with the World Bank to advance water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) efforts.
Abida Sidik Mia, MP.
Minister of Water and Sanitation
