MCP Youth

MCP Youth The MCP Youth is the official online name representing the Youth Directorate of the Malawi Congress MCP brings hope to the youth through the 2014 elections.

Malawi is a youthful country with over 70 percent of the total population compirisng young persons belo 30 years of age. The Youth are facing a lot of challenges including unemployment, poor access to eduction and training, poor access to investment capital, lack of participation in decision and policy making and high disease burden. Since the disbandment of the Malawi Young Pioneers programme, y

outh development has lagged behind a situation that has contributed to the myriad of prooblems the youth are facing. While the large numbers of the youth could be a challenge and pressure on social services that are heavily subsidized by government and development partners, the youth population bulge can be turned into a dividend if the youth are provided with the space, skills and tools to participate as active partners in development. The Malawi Congress Party has the necessary skills and experience to invest into the youth and future generations. Join the campaign for the party President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to rescue Malawi from mediocrity.

LAKESHORE BOUND: MCP YOUTH ON THE MOVE FOR DR LAZARUS CHAKWERA (Saturday 25 January 2014)
Salima is one of the key tourist districts in Malawi. Besides being of tourism importance, the district has some historical importance in the development journey of Malawi as a nation. The district is a direct product of massive infrastructural projects implemented by the MCP first regime under the late Dr Kamuzu Banda. The longest railway system pierced through the district opening it to local and international markets for its fishing and farming industries. The famous and ambitious Lakeshore Road project commissioned by the MCP regime again linked the district to the rest of the country and eased access to the fresh waters of Lake Malawi. These massive infrastructures remain the pride of Salima to date. However, 20 years since 1994 when a new government was ushered in, Salima is now in sorry state. Massive agricultural schemes remain abandoned. The railway system is largely dysfunctional and the durable Lakeshore fast becoming a skeleton without any serious rehabilitation efforts. Poverty levels are increasing by the day.

The MCP Youth inspired by the MCP Presidential candidate, Dr Lazarus Chakwera, are set to CONNECT to this wonderful development history as Malawi goes to the polls in May 2014 in search for wise and visionary leadership like the one that opened Salima to the rest of the nation and world. Salima is a perfect example of leadership gone sour since 1994.

MCP Youth Storm Lilongwe on New Year (2014)
The MCP youth stormed Lilongwe city and engaged fellow youths as part of New year celebrations. The MCP youth celebrations took place at Area 24 at Nsense Ground where crowds of youths and other citizens gathered. The event was marked with dances, music, speeches and sporting activities that energized the youth who made a strong statement endorsing the Malawi Congress Party and its Presidential candidate Dr. Lazarus Chakwera ahead of the May 2014 tripartite elections.

Taking turns speaking, the youth representatives bemoaned lack of support and meaningful investments in youth development since 1994 and have since called the MCP to go into government and address issues affecting them. The youth have observed that poverty has since increased among the youth in general and that there is no comprehensive programmes addressing their challenges. The youth made a clear statement that comes May 2014, the youth will vote for Dr Lazarus Chakwera and MCP candidates.

Speaking earlier, the MCP Parliamentary candidate for the area Mr. Rhino Chiphiko called on the youth to support the party because the party and its leadership has tangible programmes to empower the youth and recognise their contributions. The Guest of Honour who is also the Director of Youth, Hon. Lobin Lowe thanked the youth and all who attended the event for celebrating in style while preparing for May elections. He added that MCP prioritises youth development and that is why they have a Youth Directorate to support youth participation in politics and development.

Earlier in the day, the MCP youth cheered the sick at Kamuzu Central Hospital and distributed assorted items. The youth also had an opportunity to see for themselves the plight of the hospital where three child patients are sharing a bed. It was so clear that the health standards have deteriorated in the country with no clear solutions in sight.

The youth are volunteering in the campaign to support MCP to form the next government, hoping for servant and transformational leadership that can tackle a myriad of challenges facing the nation.

REGIONAL YOUTH CONFERENCES: NORTH AND CENTER

The Youth Directorate of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is pleased to announce a series youth meetings for the Central and Northern Regions. The aim of the meetings is to facilitate engagement with young people ahead of 2014 tripartite elections. MCP and its President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera believe that the youth are a social capital and recognise the need to invest in them. Therefore, the regional meetings are part of discourse on how the youth can constructively and meaningfully contribute to the national development agenda after several years of neglect since 1994. MCP is set to respond decisively to issues affecting the youth such as high unemployment levels, shrinking opportunities to training and education, and poor access to health services. The party believes that the youth should be part of the political conversation to inform the policy debate around the elections.

The meetings will be held as follows:

Central Region
Date: Friday, 27 December, 2013
Venue: Regional Offices, Area 3, along Mtunthama Road
Time: 9:00am-12:00 Noon

Northern Region
Date: Monday 30 December, 2013
Venue: Mphatso Motel (Opposite the Airport)
Time: 11:00am-2:00pm
