LAKESHORE BOUND: MCP YOUTH ON THE MOVE FOR DR LAZARUS CHAKWERA (Saturday 25 January 2014)
Salima is one of the key tourist districts in Malawi. Besides being of tourism importance, the district has some historical importance in the development journey of Malawi as a nation. The district is a direct product of massive infrastructural projects implemented by the MCP first regime under the late Dr Kamuzu Banda. The longest railway system pierced through the district opening it to local and international markets for its fishing and farming industries. The famous and ambitious Lakeshore Road project commissioned by the MCP regime again linked the district to the rest of the country and eased access to the fresh waters of Lake Malawi. These massive infrastructures remain the pride of Salima to date. However, 20 years since 1994 when a new government was ushered in, Salima is now in sorry state. Massive agricultural schemes remain abandoned. The railway system is largely dysfunctional and the durable Lakeshore fast becoming a skeleton without any serious rehabilitation efforts. Poverty levels are increasing by the day.
The MCP Youth inspired by the MCP Presidential candidate, Dr Lazarus Chakwera, are set to CONNECT to this wonderful development history as Malawi goes to the polls in May 2014 in search for wise and visionary leadership like the one that opened Salima to the rest of the nation and world. Salima is a perfect example of leadership gone sour since 1994.
