Close of Service Cerebrations!

Today, we celebrate five incredible Volunteers as they complete their service. Soren, Jordan, Victoria, and Carly dedicated two years of service to their communities, while Andrew served for one year as a Response Volunteer. As you transition into the Returned Peace Corps Volunteer family, know that your time in Malawi left a lasting impact in classrooms, in communities, in offices, in forests, in the friendships you built, in the skills you shared, and in the lessons exchanged along the way.

Girls Empowerment Through Soccer!

With support from a PEPFAR funded grant, Carly organized a special field trip to Lilongwe for 27 girls from a local girls’ football club. This initiative, implemented in partnership with Mpira Mmudzi Mwathu (MMM), aimed to promote girls’ empowerment, leadership, and life skills through soccer. The project provided equipment, training, and a learning-focused field trip to Lilongwe, including a visit to Bingu National Stadium.

Through sports, mentorship, and education, the project strengthened confidence among young girls and broadened their aspirations for the future.

After nine busy weeks, Malawi’s 2026 cohort of Health and Education Volunteers are finally finished with Pre-Service Training!

As Trainees said goodbye to their amazing host families and teachers who oriented them to Malawi, they shared their appreciation and celebrated with speeches, songs, and traditional dances from Malawi and the United States.

Peace Corps Malawi is so grateful for the host families and everyone involved in Pre-Service Training! Zikomo! Yewo!

A successful Peace Corps experience begins long before a Volunteer arrives at site. It begins with partnership.

Recently, community partners from across Malawi came together with our Peace Corps Trainees to build the relationships that will shape the next two years of service.

Together, they explored cross-cultural communication, shared expectations, volunteer support, workplace collaboration, and health and safety -laying the groundwork for partnerships rooted in trust, respect, and a shared commitment.

To every community partner who opens a door, shares their knowledge, and welcomes a Volunteer into their community: thank you. Your partnership is what makes Peace Corps possible.

Our Trainees Learn Their Future Communities🇲🇼

The wait is finally over! As our Trainees approach the end of their nine-week Pre-Service Training, they now know which community will host them for the next 22 months. Guided by staff to their “site” on the map of Malawi, Trainees learned if they were heading to the stunning landscapes of the North, or to the vibrant culture and warm spirit of the South, or to the heart of Malawi in the Central Region.

Wherever they go, each site marks the beginning of meaningful connections, learning, and impact. Here’s to new beginnings and the amazing journey ahead!

In this cooking tutorial, PCV Victoria walks us through how to make soyaballs, an accessible and affordable alternative to meatballs using locally available ingredients: soya pieces, tomatos, onions, egg, cooking oil, and spices for taste.

🩸Periods shouldn’t be a barrier to education, ability, or opportunity.

PCVs Remy and Soren did a cross-site collaboration where they co-facilitated the Pad Project together within the local community. The Pad Project is a Volunteer-led initiative that empowers women and girls through access to affordable, hygienic menstrual supplies, menstrual health education, and community conversations to reduce period stigma.

By teaching women and girls to make reusable pads from locally available materials, this initiative promotes sustainability, health, and confidence. It’s about showing up for each other, one lesson, one stitch, and one conversation at a time.

Volunteer site visits! 🏡

During visits to Volunteer’s sites, staff have the opportunity to gain a glimpse into their daily lives. This can include a variety of activities such as working with the local schools, collaborating with farmers, assisting at the local health clinic, or enjoying their hobbies outside of work.

And these visits are a great way to learn more about what the volunteers are up to and the projects they are working on.

Today, we join the people of Malawi in commemorating 62 years of independence - a milestone of courage, resilience, and national pride.

From the shores of Lake Malawi to the highlands of Mulanje, the warmth and generosity of the Malawian people have left an indelible mark on every Peace Corps volunteer who has had the privilege to serve here.

Thank you to our Malawian brothers and sisters for embracing us as partners. It is an honor to serve alongside you.
