Some good news for sustainable tourism in Malawi!

Today, the EU witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the EU funded TAZA technical assistance program service provider, DT Global and Mzuzu University, to support professional training in eco tourism, strengthening the university's contribution to Malawi's tourism sector through research and tourism data.

Through the €8 million Green Heart of Africa Programme, EU will be supporting stronger local capacity and opportunities for communities to benefit from Malawi's tourism value chain.

This collaboration is a vital step towards fostering a vibrant and sustainable tourism industry in Malawi. Let's work together to create lasting impacts! 🌿

Empowering the youth is crucial for building a future that champions human rights, democratic governance, social and economic justice, and accountability. Engaging young minds in these areas ensures a vibrant and equitable society where everyone has a voice.

Yeaterday, the EU Ambassador, Head of Partnerships and the Team Leader for Sustainable Investment, Finance and Trade, met with Youth and Society, a dedicated civil society organization committed to these principles.

Together, they exchanged strategies to further empower young people, fostering a culture of active participation and evidence based advocacy. We believe that when the Youth are empowered, they become catalysts for meaningful change!

Ambassador Daniel Aristi Gaztelumendi is visiting Mzuzu this week!

On his first day, he met with the Legal Aid Bureau and the Office of the Ombudsman, both beneficiaries of the EU-funded Chilungamo Justice and Accountability Programme, to assess the interventions with the institutions at regional level.

Both LAB and OoO deliver critical justice support to Malawian citizens. Chilungamo Programme has been crucial in promoting access to justice and upholding accountability in Malawi.

EU looks forward to continued collaboration in strengthening Malawi's justice system! 🤝

🌟 Exciting news from Mzuzu! 📢📢

Today marks the groundbreaking ceremony for a Centre of Vocational Excellence in Renewable Energy at Mzuzu Technical College.
This is a collaborative effort between the European Union in Malawi, UNOPs, and the Ministry of Labour, Skills and Innovation.

As part of the 55 million Euro EU Programme--Zantchito Skills for Jobs , UNOPS will implement the designing, construction, and equipping of four Centres of Excellence in Lilongwe, Mzuzu, Salima and Blantyre.

Through them, thousands of young Malawians will receive modern skills in such competitive domains as tourism (Blantyre) or solar energy (Mzuzu).
By strengthening top of the line vocational training infrastructure and equipment, Zantchito will contribute to making Malawian youth not just job seekers, but job creators.

We’re excited to see how this initiative will empower the next generation to lead in agriculture mechanization, marine transport, clean energy, and eco-tourism innovations! ⚡️

The death penalty must end. Everywhere.

More than two-thirds of countries have abolished it in law or in practice. Yet the death penalty is still retained and used in parts of the world. In 2025, 17 countries are known to have carried out executions.

The EU opposes the death penalty in all cases and all circumstances and will continue working towards its universal abolition.

Since 1987 more than 18.4 million people have taken part in Erasmus+ learning mobility from students and trainees to teachers, academic staff, trainers, youth workers and other professionals. Today, Erasmus+ brings together more than 85,600 organisations, supporting international learning, training and cooperation across Europe and beyond.

For individuals, Erasmus+ offers different opportunities to study, undertake a traineeship or gain international experience abroad. Some opportunities require you to apply through your university or another organisation, while others can be applied for directly.

🌍 Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters are one of the key opportunities for students from outside Europe. Students from all over the world can apply to these international Master's programmes, which are delivered jointly by universities in different countries. Full scholarships are available for the best-ranked students, covering participation costs and contributing to travel, visa and living expenses. Most applications are submitted between October and January for programmes starting the following academic year.

📚 Study abroad opportunities are also available to students and doctoral candidates enrolled at participating higher education institutions. These mobility opportunities allow students to spend part of their studies at a partner institution abroad, with financial support available. The application process is normally managed through the student's university.

💼 Traineeships abroad can provide students and recent graduates with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in another country.

Today the EU handed over a minibus and a four wheel drive vehicle to the Directorate of Civic Education (DoCE) and NICE Public Trust Malawi respectively. We are elated that the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development could be with us.

These two vehicles have been transferred from the Boma Lathu Democratic Governance Programme, funded with 17 million Euro, which is now entering its final phase, following five years of implementation supporting efforts to strengthen democratic governance in Malawi.

These two vehicles will allow DoCe and NICE to continue reaching citizens in faraway areas to help building an informed and engaged population, aware of their rights and obligations, and able to participate in decision-making.
