Government has disbursed K19 billion Constituency Development Fund (CDF) education bursaries to all councils in the country ahead of schools opening this coming September.

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Dr. Ben Malunga Phiri says he is hopeful that needy students will be able to access the bursaries in their respective districts and go to school on time.

The Minister said the bursaries are part of government’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to education and to reduce the burden on vulnerable households.

Rehabilitation works on the 55-kilometre Nsipe–Liwonde Road are progressing well with construction activities continuing on several sections of the road.

Construction works currently include road clearing, sub-base and base construction, asphalt surfacing and drainage works. So far, more than 30 kilometres of clearing, over 20 kilometres of sub-base, over 15 kilometres of base and more than 7 kilometres of asphalt surfacing have been completed.

Progress has also been recorded on drainage works, with 41 culverts completed between 30km and 55km. The drainage structures are part of the works aimed at improving water management along the road and protecting the infrastructure from water-related damage.

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika today held a farewell meeting with outgoing Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) Commissioners following the conclusion of their three-year mandate.

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has committed to protecting human rights in the country.

He made the commitment today at Kamuzu Palace during a farewell meeting for the outgoing Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) Commissioners, whose terms have concluded.

President Mutharika acknowledged the important work the outgoing Commissioners have accomplished over the past three years, including protecting the human rights of women, children, and the elderly, as well as advancing access to information.

Reflecting on the future, President Mutharika acknowledged the challenges facing the Commission, particularly the financial constraints the commission has endured over the years, and pledged his government's support for the Commission.

Outgoing MHRC Commissioner Chikondi Chijozi Jere said the engagement provided an opportunity to brief the President on the commission’s work, its challenges, and its future outlook.

The Commissioners concluded their three-year mandate on August 26, 2026.

Minister of Industrialisation, Business, Trade and Tourism, Simoni Itaye has called for stronger economic and trade ties between Malawi and Japan.

Speaking during a Japan-Malawi Business Networking reception hosted at the Japanese Ambassador’s residence in Lilongwe on Monday, Itaye called on Japanese investors to explore investment opportunities in agri-processing, tourism, mining, manufacturing, the upscaling of small and medium entrepreneurs, the construction of infrastructure for special economic zones and the development of structured markets.

On his part, Japanese ambassador to Malawi, Naito Yasuchi said Malawi remains an important partner and that the networking event would foster discussions, new ideas forge business partnerships that would be mutually beneficial to the two countries.

Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Decentralisation, Joseph Mwanamvekha has today launched the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) 2026–2031 Corporate Strategic Plan, which will guide the Authority’s operations over the next five years through accelerated revenue mobilisation, improved taxpayer services, digital transformation and strengthened revenue administration.

Mwanamvekha has urged taxpayers and MRA to work together to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation, saying effective tax compliance and efficient revenue administration are critical to financing the country’s development priorities.

Speaking on behalf of development partners, UNDP Resident Representative for Malawi, Fanella Frost commended MRA for developing the strategic plan, describing it as an important step towards strengthening domestic resource mobilisation and improving public service delivery.

The Government of His Excellency President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has pledged its commitment to continuing and completing all development projects that were initiated by previous administrations.

Second Vice President, Enock Chihana said this on Sunday during the Annual General Meeting of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia held at Kamuzu Academy in Kasungu where he represented President Mutharika.

Chihana said development projects belong to Malawians and should not be abandoned due to changes in government, adding that construction of Mombera University will resume within two months.
