True literacy goes far beyond reading and writing. Adult learning and education give people opportunities to learn, adapt, participate and thrive at every stage of life. 🌱

Thousands of lives lost. Thousands more infected. And the Ebola outbreak is still spreading.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is facing an unprecedented Ebola outbreak. It has already surpassed the country's previous largest outbreak of 2018–2020, both in confirmed cases and lives lost.

🇩🇪 Germany is stepping up its support.

Germany is helping strengthen the response on the ground — supporting health workers, laboratories, and essential equipment needed to detect infections, care for patients, and help contain the outbreak.

But the response goes beyond the immediate crisis. Germany also supports stronger health systems as well as vaccine development and production capacity in Africa.

Because fighting Ebola is not only about responding to today's emergency. It is also about being better prepared for future outbreaks.

Human rights do not protect themselves. They are universal and protecting them is a shared responsibility. 🤝

That is why Germany is running for a seat on the UN Human Rights Council for 2027–2029.

For Germany 🇩🇪, protecting human rights is not an optional part of foreign policy. Our own history has shaped that responsibility, while fundamental rights are firmly anchored in Germany’s Basic Law today.

If elected, Germany will continue working with partners worldwide to protect human rights defenders; strengthen the rule of law and equality; defend freedoms of expression, the press, religion and belief; combat transnational repression; and work towards the abolition of the death penalty. ✅

For 20 years, the UN Human Rights Council has provided a forum where every country’s human rights record can be examined, including our own. Germany has served as an elected member five times and remains committed to a strong international human rights system that holds all states to the same standards.

State of the art training needs adequate facilities, and a fresh coat of paint marks the start of a new approach for improved police training in Malawi in the field of investigative policing. 🏫👮‍♂️

Together with the Commissioner of Police for Central West Region, Mr. Mabvuto Mbobo, German Acting Head of Mission Andreas Hartmann launched the upgrading works at the Malawi Police Central Region Training Centre in Lilongwe, Area 3. 🇲🇼🤝🇩🇪

The support includes technical equipment 🛠️ and comes within the frame of the German Government funded Technical Cooperation project, Public Finance and Economic Management, implemented by GIZ Malawi. 🤝

The project provides space for the training of 100 investigators from the Malawi Police Service and other law enforcement agencies. 👮‍♀️👮‍♂️ It furthermore includes an overhaul of the Investigators Training Curriculum. 📚

🌾🌱 Stronger together: integrated solutions for food and nutrition security 🍽

Impressive what difference combing support to nutrition, climate-smart agriculture, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), gender empowerment, and community systems can make among vulnerable households in Malawi.

🇩🇪 During last week’s visit to German-funded projects, the German Embassy’s Development Cooperation Team saw inspiring proof that food and nutrition security is possible — even in the face of recurring droughts and economic shocks.

Through German INGO WHH Malawi - Welthungerhilfe’s Nutrition Smart CommUNITY (NSC) Programme, communities are seeing substantial improvements in child feeding practices, women’s dietary diversity, household food security and community participation.

When communities are empowered, resilience grows. 💚

Fascinating, what can be achieved when entrepreneurial spirit meets a matching grant and targeted technical support through the Growth Accelerator Malawi (Grow Malawi)

In Blantyre District, Jesmo Investments is driving business growth while creating meaningful local impact.

“We invested in automated feed production to ensure high-quality layer diets while directly empowering local farmers,” the CEO shared.

He recalls celebrating the very first egg in 2015. Today, the business produces 700 trays of eggs a day — a remarkable journey of growth, investment, and partnership.

The 46th Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) took place in Durban, South Africa, this week, bringing together Heads of State from across Southern Africa to shape the region’s political, social and economic direction.

The focus is clear: to build an integrated, peaceful Southern African region with better livelihoods for all its citizens, and we congratulate Malawi 🇲🇼 for its successful participation.

That means advancing industrialisation, infrastructure development, agricultural transformation, energy security and regional value chains — while promoting peace and security and the sustainable use of Southern Africa’s treasures of nature.

From Sudan to Gaza to Ukraine, humanitarian workers are risking their lives to deliver food, medicine, shelter and hope to people caught in conflict.

🇩🇪 Germany stands with humanitarians around the world — and remains one of the leading supporters of humanitarian assistance globally.

These aren't soldiers. They are doctors. Drivers. Local volunteers. Aid workers. People who step into some of the world's most dangerous places to keep others alive.

On World Humanitarian Day, we honour those who have lost their lives, those who continue to serve, and the millions of people who depend on them. 🌍

As German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul puts it: “Humanitarian aid workers must be granted safe and unhindered access to people in need. Attacks against them are never acceptable; they violate international humanitarian law.”
