Director of Finance (DOF) at Rumphi District Council, Mr. Khumbo Masankhula has just added another qualfication to his academic credentials.

He has graduated with a Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) today from Malawi School of Government.

District Commissioner (DC) for Rumphi, Thomas Chigwenembe has called on newly recruited Constituency Development Fund (CDF) officers to work closely with local structures and perform their duties professionally for the benefit of the communities they will be serving.

The DC was speaking at the Council Secretariat on Thursday during orientation of 12 newly recruited assistant procurement officers, assistant accountants and assistant public works officers allocated to the four constituencies in the district namely Rumphi North, East, Central and West.

He said the orientation will enable the officers to understand the depth of their responsibilities in order for them to perform their duties satisfactorily.

One of the newly recruited assistant procurement officers, Francis Gondwe said the orientation has helped them understand what is expected of CDF officers handling various roles and that CDF has given them job opportunities.

“I have been out work for over three years since my contract at my previous job expired. Life has been hard, but this new role has given me a lifeline,” said Gondwe.

Under Reformed CDF, each constituency will get K5 billion and Rumphi District is expected to get K20 billion for its four constituencies.

Mr. Vitumbiko Nyirongo who works for Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) as District Elections Officer for Rumphi and is based at Rumphi District Council Secretariat graduated today with a Masters Degree in Public Administration and Management from University of Malawi.

Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jappie Mhango has urged the contractor working constructing a twin classroom block at Mahuwi Primary School at Livingstonia in Rumphi to produce quality project within agreed 120-day contract period.

Mhango, who is also Member of Parliament for Rumphi North made the call on Wednesday when Rumphi District Council launched the construction of the K268 million World Bank funded project through Regional Climate Resilience Programme (RCRP2) at the school.

District Commissioner for Rumphi, Thomas Chigwenembe has assured the community that the Council will closely monitor the project to ensure that the contractor adheres to agreed quality standards.

Meanwhile Group Village Headman Gezamchere has said the project will help reduce classroom space challenges at the school and provide a conducive learning environment for learners.
