The state government of Guanajuato has been making some motions to use their eminent domain power to turn Tamaula into an ecological preserve. The people are very much opposed because they would no longer be able to get lena for their fires or pasture their goats. It is actually the entire Cerro del Veinte which encompasses over 30 comunidades and over 100,000 residents. They did something similar

a few years ago on Cerro Arrandas across the way and now that is where Villas de Irapuato is with the million dollar homes. Typically the government just uses this ecological reserve scheme to get the land and then next thing you know they are building houses and Walmarts on it.
