A proud moment for CHEST Alor Setar as Dr. Arvind A/L Alaga, Respiratory Consultant, Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, successfully completed his fellowship and structured training in Robotic-Assisted Bronchoscopy (RAB) and Lung Nodule Ablation at the Respiratory Endoscopy Center, Shanghai Chest Hospital, China.
This achievement marks a significant milestone, as Dr. Arvind becomes the first Malaysian to complete fellowship training encompassing both robotic-assisted bronchoscopy and lung nodule ablation, with exposure to advanced interventional techniques including cryoablation, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and microwave ablation.
But this is more than a personal achievement.
It represents a new chapter in the evolution of advanced respiratory intervention in Northern Peninsular Malaysia โ and potentially the beginning of a dedicated service through CHEST Alor Setar, Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, bringing sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic options closer to our patients in the region.
From Shanghai, Dr. Arvind returns home with more than knowledge and technical skills. He returns with a greater responsibility โ to translate learning into service, experience into expertise, and expertise into a legacy that can be shared with others.
โThe true value of learning something new is not in being the only one who can do it, but in being able to teach others to do it better.โ
Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia for the trust, JKN Kedah, and opportunity extended to Dr. Arvind, and to Prof. Sun and Prof. Zheng of Shanghai Chest Hospital for their generosity, mentorship and willingness to share their expertise.
This fellowship was also a meaningful two-way exchange of knowledge. Dr. Arvind had the opportunity to share experiences from our own centre, including his contribution and expertise during challenging rigid bronchoscopy cases.
From Malaysia to China, and back home again โ this journey is a reminder that advancement in medicine is built not only through technology, but through people who are willing to learn, share and lead.
The journey does not end here. This is the beginning of something bigger.
A journey towards developing advanced respiratory intervention closer to our patients in Northern Malaysia. A journey towards building a sustainable service, nurturing local expertise and, one day, establishing a centre of excellence that can serve as a platform for learning, innovation and training for the next generation of healthcare professionals.
One milestone today.
One vision for tomorrow.
And hopefully, a legacy for generations to come.
Congratulations!
