【Ambassador Shikata attended the World Bonsai Convention 2026 Opening Ceremony】

On 29th August, Ambassador SHIKATA Noriyuki attended the
World Bonsai Convention 2026 Opening Ceremony.

This event took place in Kuala Lumpur from 28 to 31 August 2026, it is a global competition held once every four years and marked its 10th edition this year. As a world-class bonsai competition, the event brings together bonsai enthusiasts from around the globe to take part in exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops.

Additionally, the Embassy booth also promoted the International　Green×Expo2027 to be held　in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture from 19 March, 2027.

We hope that this traditional Japanese art form will continue to draw growing interest in Malaysia and further contribute to deepening cultural exchange between Japan and Malaysia.

【Japanese Culture Workshop & Booth at AniManGaki 2026】

From 28th to 30th August, the Embassy of Japan participated in the AniManGaki 2026 at the Mines International Exhibition & Convention Centre (MIECC).

With the assistance of NIHONGO Partners, many visitors enjoyed trying out Japanese calligraphy at our booth. In collaboration with the Nippon Designers School Malaysia College, participants also had the opportunity to create analogue manga using G-pens and colouring with Copic markers.

We are overjoyed that many visitors stopped by to experience from the elegance of Japanese calligraphy to the Japanese pop culture. Thank you for your tremendous support.

🇲🇾 Did you know that one of the iconic KLCC Twin Towers was built by a Japanese consortium? 🇯🇵

Back in 1992, the construction of Tower 1 was awarded to Hazama Corporation. From KLCC to KLIA, Japan has played a meaningful role in shaping Malaysia’s infrastructure and skyline.

This Merdeka, we celebrate not only Malaysia’s journey as a nation, but also the partnerships that have helped build it — brick by brick, bridge by bridge, and tower by tower. 🇲🇾🤝🇯🇵

【Ambassador Shikata attended “JAGAM Japan Education Fair 2026”】

On 23rd August, Ambassador SHIKATA Noriyuki attended the “JAGAM Japan Education Fair 2026”, organized by JAGAM Japan Graduates' Association of Malaysia-JAGAM, Central Branch.

Ambassador Shikata expressed his appreciation to JAGAM for organizing this valuable fair and highlighted Japan’s diverse educational opportunities and the appeal of studying in Japan. He also expressed his hope that participants would deepen their understanding of studying in Japan through the fair and consider Japan as a destination for their studies.

The Embassy hopes that Malaysian students realize their dreams of studying in Japan.

【Ambassador Shikata Attends the 2026 Asia Economic & Entrepreneurship Summit】

On August 20, 2026, Ambassador SHIKATA Noriyuki attended the 2026 Asia Economic & Entrepreneurship Summit held in Kuala Lumpur. Insightful discussions were held on how to navigate geoeconomic and geopolitical risks to build a more resilient economy.

In his opening keynote address, Ambassador Shikata emphasized the potential for cooperation between Malaysia and Japan in uncertain times, stating, “By combining Japan’s technological and industrial strengths with Malaysia’s dynamism, connectivity and multi-lingual talent with increasingly more competitive educational institutions, our two countries can turn shared challenges into shared opportunities and help build resilient, responsible and future-ready enterprises across Asia.”

The summit was jointly organized by the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific, ASEAN Economic Club, World Business Chamber, and Pacific Basin Economic Council.
