Penang Harmony Corporation-HARMONICO We are an implementing agency (Penang CMI) overseeing matters pertaining to religion other than Islam Penang Harmony Corporation Sdn. Bhd.

(HARMONICO) was established on 10 March 2021 under the Penang Chief Minister’s Incorporation (CMI) as an implementing agency to oversee matters pertaining to religions other than Islam and to execute plans and policies that will promote and bring about an inclusive and harmonious society in Malaysia. HARMONICO aims to build and promote the new concept of religious harmony so as to meet the challen

ges posed by religious diversity in a globalized world. On the basis of recognizing religious diversity and differences, all religions should enhance mutual understanding and empathy through dialogue, shoulder the common responsibility of upholding peace and justice through cooperation, and foster intra- and inter-religious harmony and harmony between the religious community and the larger society. HARMONICO believes that better understanding between different races and religions is the key to bridge the gap. It is HARMONICO‘s role to actively coordinate issues related to non-Muslim affairs and state/federal government assistance to non-Muslim Houses of Worship (RIBI), to be the reference point for all non-Muslim Houses of Worship (RIBI) associations or organizations, monitor the eRIBI system, organise religious festivals and programs for religions other than Islam at State Government level and promote Penang as a religious tourism destination.

“Mankind has an innate desire to observe and seek understanding of the different cultures that exist in the world.”
These desires to observe and understand different ways of life, traditions, values, and belief systems constitute the very platform of tourism. For domestic tourists, cultural heritage can stimulate a greater understanding in the local history, which may transcend into the feeling of pride and patriotism. It is imperative to promote the principle of ‘harmony without uniformity’ and learn to respect each other and jointly shoulder social responsibilities. The HARMONICO’s programmes are organised and extended to our community of all faiths.

Penang's Teong Guan Phor Thor Festival, also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival, was announced as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Penang State Government.

This recognition not only celebrates the traditions and practices during the 7th lunar month by the Chinese community, but also timely as the festival reflects the multifaith diversity as part of Penang's identity.

We, at HARMONICO, is heartened by this announcement, and hopes that more communities will be inspired to position their festivals and celebrations for the similar recognition

在第五届亚州地放方学国际研讨会历经为期 3 天的讲座与实地考察后，槟城和谐机构（HARMONICO）受邀于座谈会环节中，就这一关键课题发表见解。

槟城和谐机构总经理欧宗义先生在致辞中，立足于乔治市世界文化遗产区及槟城的背景，向与会者阐述了将“促进宗教和谐”这一使命融入文化遗产保护过程中的五大机遇与五大挑战。他强调，政府机构、学术界与当地社区必须携手合作，共同制定出具前瞻性与适应力的综合方案，以实现跨领域的共同落实。

槟城和谐机构谨此热烈祝贺王琛发教授成功举办本届研讨会，集结来自中国、越南、韩国及马来西亚的专家学者齐聚槟城，展开这场意义深远的学术与文化交流!

“What can HARMONICO do for cultural heritage preservation?”

After 3 days of expert lectures and site visits during the 5th International Conference on Local Asian Studies, HARMONICO was given the opportunity to address this important topic during the panel discussion.

HARMONICO General Manager Mr. Paul Au drew the audience's attention to five opportunities and five challenges in integrating the mandate of religious harmony into cultural heritage preservation, framed against the backdrop of the George Town World Heritage Site, and Penang. In his address, he emphasized the need to co-develop holistic and adaptive measures that enable collective implementation by government institutions, academia, and the community.

HARMONICO congratulates Prof. Ong Seng Huat for successfully convening experts and researchers from China, Vietnam, South Korea, and Malaysia in Penang for this meaningful exchange.

从促进交流的文化研讨会、欢庆晚宴到热闹非凡的出巡踏街赐福游行，整场盛会充分体现了将槟城打造为区域宗教与文化枢纽的愿景。

值得一提的是，本次出巡游行汇聚了近 50 个来自各地的庙宇代表团、龙狮团、武术团队及丰富多彩的文化演出，沿途夹道的欢呼声与赞叹声此起彼伏，场面盛大欢腾！

HARMONICO is pleased to participate in the 3rd anniversary celebrations of Leng Hai Cheng Huang Temple. The programs, including the cultural exchange, gala dinner and procession, embodied the vision of positioning Penang as a religious and cultural hub for the region.

The participation of almost 50 groups of temple representatives, lion and dragon dances, martial arts and cultural performances further enlivened the procession, drawing cheers from the crowd, near and far.

As our team member Atikah begins a new chapter, we would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for her dedication and commitment since joining HARMONICO in 2022. 这场为期三天的盛会精彩纷呈，不仅完美呈献了庄严传统的道教仪式，更融合了活力满满的现代中华文化展示与表演，为所有参与者带来了独一无二的文化体验。而在周日傍晚，一场长达 4.8 公里的神轿与神尊游行更是将活动推向高潮——这也是威南区首次举办此类游行，吸引了众多不同背景的公众热情参与。

Last weekend, HARMONICO supported the Federation of Penang Taoists Association of Malaysia (Penang Branch) in organizing the Penang Taoist Cultural Celebrations 2026 in Seberang Perai Selatan. It was a wonderful showcase of traditional Taoist rituals, intermixed with vibrant, modern Chinese cultural elements, leaving visitors with a wonderful experience. On Sunday evening, the celebrations culminated with a 4.8km-long procession of sedan chairs and deities, the first of its kind in Seberang Perai Selatan, attracting public interest and participation.

HARMONICO would like to thank all organizations, individuals, and volunteers who have come together to make this three-day celebration a success. We hope to see the celebration grow from strength to strength, transitioning Penang into a global hub for religious tourism.
