Over 26 days, KL Festival 2026 transformed Downtown Kuala Lumpur into a shared stage for creativity, culture and community.

What began with around 80 planned programmes grew into more than 150 performances, collaborations and community-led experiences as artists, businesses, partners, volunteers and communities stepped forward to be part of the journey. The response reflected a growing belief in the power of culture to bring people together and reconnect people with the city.

As the festival closed with the announcement of the Asian Music Games Kuala Lumpur 2026, Jalan Raja came alive with energy, music and the spirit of collaboration that defined this year’s festival.

To our artists, performers, communities, volunteers, partners, sponsors and audiences — thank you for helping shape this story and for showing what Kuala Lumpur can become when people come together with a shared belief in the city.

KL Festival 2026 closes today, but there’s still time to experience the city through exhibitions, performances, walks, workshops and more across Downtown Kuala Lumpur - checkout the programmes on klfestival.com.my ❤️

A city alive with stories, sounds, memories and new possibilities. ✨

As KL Festival 2026 enters its final weekend, Downtown Kuala Lumpur continues to surprise, inspire and bring people together through culture, creativity and community.

From Wayang Kulit: Memory & Tomorrow and Untitled to Chapter 2 by renowned Thai choreographer Pichet Klunchun, alongside exhibitions, performances, conversations and discoveries across the city, the festival reflects the many layers, identities and experiences that make Kuala Lumpur unique.

What began as a festival has become something larger: a shared city experience where heritage, contemporary culture and public life meet in unexpected ways.

One final weekend.
One last chance to experience KL differently.

More than half of public housing households in Malaysia have savings that can only last 1 to 3 months, and 17% have none at all.

These are among the striking findings in our latest publication, From Roof to Resilience: A Social Assessment of Malaysia's Public Housing, which examines the real challenges facing public housing communities and what it takes to build neighbourhoods that are liveable, resilient and sustainable. The study also demonstrates that meaningful change is achievable when communities are given the trust, support and space to lead.

We’re now halfway through KL Festival 2026 — and Downtown Kuala Lumpur has come alive in ways we could only have imagined. ✨

From the shadows of Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad during Wayang Women Live in Dataran, to stories of memory, movement and identity through Pending, Warung Terang and Pak Peng Arcade, the city continues to transform into a shared stage for creativity, cultures and communities.

And there’s still so much more to come.

The next two weekends will feature some of the festival’s meaningful experiences yet — from Berkelah di Dataran, a relaxed zero-waste picnic and movie night in the heart of the city (remember to bring your own tiffin carriers 🌿), to powerful performances such as Siapa Cacat and The Lessons of Silence, alongside exhibitions, talks, workshops, walks and discoveries unfolding across Downtown KL.

With over 80 programmes happening across heritage buildings, streets, galleries and public spaces, there is still plenty waiting to be explored.

Whether you’ve joined us before or are planning your first visit, this is your invitation to experience the city in a different light.

Malaysia’s community-led approach to public housing takes the global stage at World Urban Forum 13

From Roof to Resilience: A Social Assessment of Malaysia’s Public Housing was launched at the Malaysia Pavilion during the World Urban Forum 2026 in Baku, Azerbaijan, bringing Malaysia’s public housing experience into wider global conversations on housing, liveability and urban resilience.

The publication was launched by YB Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Housing and Local Government Malaysia and President of the United Nations Habitat Assembly, in line with the forum’s theme, Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities. We are grateful for the support of YB Minister and partners in bringing this important conversation on public housing resilience to the global stage.

Drawing from Think City’s Kita-untuk-Kita (K2K) programme, the report brings together lessons and insights from communities across the Klang Valley, where more than 30,000 residents across 10 public housing communities have shown that lasting transformation is built not only through physical improvements, but also through trust, participation and shared ownership of place.
