李升：希望安华和政府更开放和加大力度扶持华文与华文学校
（怡保27日讯）人民进步党霹雳州主席拿督李升认为，首相拿督斯里安华很清晰和客观认清华文的重要性，希望安华和政府更开放和加大力度扶持华文与华文学校。
李升表示，从安华于昨日发表如果不提升华文的地位与学习水平，将是损失的言论表示，这反映出了安华清楚了解当今世界经济的走势，要在经济上寻求发展，必须能够掌握华文，与中国打交道，否则将在经济方面落后其他国家。
他说，在目前中国经济蓬勃发展，华文成为全球一项非常重要经济语言时刻，我国政府必须很开放地鼓励各族人民学习华文。
他表示，政府有需要增加拨款扶助华文中、小学，包括改善师资培训、师资教学、教职员与学生福利，改善学校的环境与设备，以加强学生学习和掌握华文。
另外，他说，政府也不妨在其他源流学校开设华文学习班，鼓励各族学生学习华文，让学生多掌握一种语文，增加自己的优势。
虽然如此，李升也认为，政府也有需要保存和加强马来文与英文的学习以外，马来文和英文在当今时代仍然很重要，至于其他种族的母语，包括印裔同胞的淡米尔文的学习，也有需要加强。
*Datuk Dr Lee Heng: Hopes Anwar and the Government Will Be More Open and Increase Support for Chinese Language and Schools*
(Ipoh, 27th) Datuk Dr Lee Heng, Perak Chairman of the People's Progressive Party (PPP), believes that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim clearly and objectively recognizes the importance of Chinese language and hopes that Anwar and the government will be more open and increase their support for Chinese language and schools.
Datuk Dr Lee Heng stated that Anwar's remarks yesterday that it would be a loss if the status and learning level of Chinese language were not improved reflects Anwar's clear understanding of the current global economic trends. He believes that to seek economic development, one must be able to master Chinese language and engage with China; otherwise, China will lag behind other countries economically.
He said that at a time when China's economy is booming and Chinese language has become a very important global economic language, the Malaysian government must be very open to encouraging people of all races to learn Chinese.
He stated that the government needs to increase funding to support Chinese primary and secondary schools, including improving teacher training, teaching methods, staff and student welfare, and improving the school environment and facilities to enhance students' learning and mastery of Chinese language.
He added that the government could also consider opening Chinese language classes in other types of schools to encourage students of all races to learn Chinese, allowing them to acquire an additional language and increase their competitive advantage.
However, Datuk Dr Lee Heng also believes that in addition to preserving and strengthening the learning of Malay and English, which remain important in today's world, the learning of other ethnic mother tongues, including Tamil for Indian students, also needs to be strengthened.
