Y-Strainer in Fire Pump Suction Line

In fire protection systems, maintaining a clean fire pump suction line is critical. During commissioning and operation, rust scale, welding residue, and construction debris can enter the pipeline and potentially damage pump impellers or mechanical seals at startup.

A UL-listed Y-Strainer installed upstream of the fire pump filters solid particles before water enters the pump, protecting critical components and maintaining stable suction conditions.
Typical installation practice:
• Installed on the suction line before the pump inlet
• Horizontal installation with the screen pocket facing downward
• Removable stainless-steel screen for inspection and cleaning
The EMACO Y-Strainer features a ductile iron body with fusion-bonded epoxy coating (ANSI/AWWA C550) and a removable stainless-steel screen. It is available in sizes from 2″ to 12″ (50–300 mm) with grooved (ISO 6182) or flanged (EN 1092-2 PN10/PN16) connections, rated up to 300 psi depending on size. With a temperature range of –10°C to 200°C (graphite gasket) and a low-loss flow path, it is well suited for fire pump suction lines and demanding fire water applications.
