Sabah State Railway Department was intially called North Borneo Railway and was first established on the 1st of August 1914 throgh the Railway Ordinance, Chapter 116 of the Ordinance of North Borneo. When Malaysia was formed in 1963, the name North Borneo Railway was changed to Sabah State Railway Department and this name is still in use today.
