Sabah Dancesport Association Sabah Dancesport Association was officially registered with Pesuruhanjaya Sukan Sabah on 8th April, 2016.

Timeline of SBDA

4 Sep 1996 - Persatuan Penari Kinabalu Ballroom, Kota Kinabalu (Kinabalu Ballroom Dancers Association, Kota Kinabalu) - (KBDA) was registered under the Registrar of Societies (ROS)

17 Nov 1996 - KBDA had its first EGM with the election of the Executive Committee, where Mr John Chong was elected as President

7 Jan 1997 - KBDA decided to change its status statewide and was then o

fficially known as Persatuan Penari Kinabalu Ballroom Sabah (Sabah Kinabalu Ballroom Dancers Association)[SKBDA]

8 Jul 1997 - SKBDA had its inaugural installation which was celebrated at a grand scale at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort featuring 10 ballroom dances, and 2 cultural dances performed by its members.

16 May 2011 - The ROS approved SKBDA’s application for a name change to Persatuan Tarian Sukan Sabah (Sabah Dancesport Association)[SDSA] which elevated its status to a sports association

[Note: This change was necessary so as to be at par with current development, where ballroom dancing has been recognised as a Dancesport and accepted as a ‘sport’ event by the International Olympic Council since 1997]

2012 - ROS advised SDSA to apply to the Sports Commissioner of Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, Kuala Lumpur as the status of the association has changed to a ‘Sports Organisation’; SDSA should now come under the Sports Commissioner.

17 Aug 2015 - SDSA submitted its application for registration with Pesuruhjaya Sukan Negeri Sabah (Sabah Sports Commision) [SSC]

20 Oct 2015 - SDSA was called by the SSC for an interview

11 Nov 2015 - SDSA re-submitted its application with revised terms as advised by the SSC

28 Jan 2016 - SSC advised SDSA to use SSC standard rules and constitution

3 Feb 2016 - SDSA re-submitted its application together with SSC standard rules and constitution

8 Apr 2016 - Persatuan Dancesport Negeri Sabah (Sabah Dancesport Association)[SBDA] was officially registered under SSC pursuant clause 16 of Malaysia’s Sports Development Act 1997, which caused the registration with ROS under the Societies Act 1966 to cease

Present

With the successful registration, the status of the present Executive Committee is now reverted to Protem Committee and its existing Life Members and Junior Members remained status quo under terms approved by the SSC. SBDA has until March 2017 to conduct its first AGM for the election of a new Executive Committee.

SSC-SDA DanceSport Training Camp 2025 – A Successful Experience! 🕺💃

The SSC-SDA DanceSport Training Camp 2025 in Sarawak has successfully concluded, and our Sabah DanceSport athletes had an amazing opportunity to train alongside top talents from Sarawak! 🌟

A big thank you to Mr. Nam Gi Yong, renowned Korean DanceSport coach, for sharing his expertise and guiding our athletes on advanced techniques and competition presentation. His insights and coaching were truly inspiring!

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the Sarawak DanceSport Association (SDA) for organizing and supporting this training camp — your dedication to nurturing DanceSport talents is truly appreciated. 🙏

We are proud of our 3 Sabah athletes who participated in this camp — your dedication and hard work are commendable! 💪✨

This training camp not only strengthened the skills of our athletes but also reinforced the strong sporting cooperation between Sabah and Sarawak.

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah DanceSport Association (SBDA), the sole recognised governing body for DanceSport in the state, paid a courtesy visit to Mohd Asneh Mohd Noor, Director of the Sabah Sports Council, recently.

During the meeting, the Council reaffirmed its full support for the upcoming Sabah DanceSport Championship 2025, scheduled to take place on 6 September 2025 at Kian Kok Middle School Hall.

Led by SBDA officials and committee members, the visit aimed to strengthen collaborative efforts to promote DanceSport as a dynamic and inclusive sporting discipline within Sabah.
