Sabah Tourism Board (STB) today received a courtesy visit and briefing from the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), led by its CEO Suriaghandi Suppiah, to explore insights and opportunities in the healthcare travel industry.

The briefing covered Malaysia’s healthcare travel performance for 2025, with a current focus on ASEAN and Oceania markets. MHTC also highlighted Sabah’s encouraging growth, with Indonesia, China, and the Philippines among the top source markets contributing to healthcare travel revenue from international patients and healthcare travellers.

The MHTC team was welcomed by STB CEO Julinus Jeffery Jimit, who shared an overview of Sabah’s tourism performance and outlook, and expressed STB’s openness to supporting healthcare tourism-related initiatives.

A Sesi Hala Tuju Perancangan Acara & Pembangunan Kemudahan Pelancongan Negeri was held on May 19, jointly organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah (KePKAS) and Sabah Tourism Board (STB).

The session was attended by KePKAS Permanent Secretary YBhg. Datuk Josie Lai and representatives from the Ministry of Rural Development Sabah; Ministry of Local Government and Housing; Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Sabah; Sabah Cultural Board; Sabah Forestry Department; and district officers from across Sabah.

During the session, STB presented briefings on the current status of Sabah’s tourism industry, including visitor arrival statistics, tourism products, promotional initiatives, and tourism and cultural events.

KePKAS also presented proposals on tourism facility development under the RMK-13, including support for event-related assistance.

Sabah Tourism Board today held an engagement session with tourism stakeholders on Vireo SEA and Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Certification, aimed at helping tourism players adopt globally recognised sustainable tourism standards.

The session was officiated by STB Chief Executive Officer Julinus Jeffery Jimit, in the presence of Deputy Chief Executive Officer Tay Shu Lan.

As part of our ongoing support, STB continues to work closely with tourism stakeholders to strengthen understanding and adoption of sustainable tourism practices in Sabah.

The session featured sharing by Vireo SEA General Manager Mr. Lim Aik Loong on GSTC standards and certification processes, alongside practical insights from industry players including Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, Shangri-La Rasa Ria, and Turtle Island Lodge Selingan, who shared their experiences throughout the certification journey.

Sabah Tourism Board received a courtesy visit from the Shenzhen Federation of Science Popularization Education Bases, on May 18.

The 12-member delegation, led by its Secretary General Mr. Xin Shi Min, was welcomed by STB CEO Julinus Jeffrey Jimit, DCEO Tay Shu Lan and Marketing Manager (China market) Aboni Loong.

The meeting discussed educational tourism, marine education, science and technology cooperation, and potential education programmes tailored for student groups from China’s Greater Bay Area.
