The Sultan of Perak, HRH Sultan Nazrin Shah received Sri Lanka’s Envoy to Malaysia High Commissioner Dharshana M. Perera at an Audience at the Istana Perak (Perak Palace) on Wednesday (26 August 2026).

The High Commissioners engagement with Sultan Nazrin Shah is part of an initiative to invigorate collaboration with the vibrant regions across Malaysia for elevation of the bilateral relationship.
The High Commissioner reflected on the enlightening vision of Sultan Nazrin Shah which captures good governance, economic inclusivity and shared prosperity, education and social empowerment which the High Commissioner said resonates with Sri Lanka’s contemporary ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ framework capturing the social, environmental and ethical pillars of governance and development.

Sri Lanka’s multifaceted engagement with Malaysia and the areas of future cooperation which could capture the next phase of the bilateral relations between the two countries was discussed. The value of recording the historical people-oriented links in Perak founded on the Ceylonese migrations as well as the Malaysian Sinhalese, and others, enhanced Economic engagement including technology and innovation and importantly the role of regional leadership in elevating the relationship was actively considered.

High Commissioner Dharshana M. Perera joined Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing, J.P., Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia at the Inauguration of the Maha Karuna Vihara on Saturday, 8 August 2026 in Shah Alam, Selangor. The Minister representing the Government of Malaysia as the Chief Guest formally inaugurated the Maha Karuna Vihara and pledged a donation of RM30,000 to the Vihara. The land on which the Vihara proudly stands is a generous contribution of Malaysia, embodying the spirit of Malaysia MADANI.

The Maha Karuna Vihara in Shah Alam, Selangor marks a milestone in the annals of Buddhist history in Malaysia bringing together the communities of Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayayana paths of Buddhism. This joint initiative was led by Chief Reverend Bootawatte Saranankara Nayaka Maha Thero, Spritual Advisor of Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia and Adhikarana Judiciary of Malaysia and Chief Priests of the Mahayana and Vajrayayana Buddhist communities. The inauguration was graced by Chief High Priest of the Buddhist Maha Vihara in Brickfields, Ven. Datuk Dr. Kirinde Dhammaratana Maha Thera together with thousands of well wishers.

The event was attended by large number of Buddhist devotees from Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, India and several other countries.

🇱🇰🇲🇾 Sri Lanka is expanding its regional engagement in Malaysia through proposed collaboration with Melaka.

High Commissioner Dharshana M. Perera met H.E. Tun Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam, Governor of Melaka, and the leadership of the Melaka Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry

Initiatives will seek to strengthen greater interaction with leadership and strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, culture, logistics, manufacturing, IT and people-to-people ties.

The MCCCI is expected to participate in Sri Lanka’s EXPO 2027 opening new avenues for business partnerships between our two countries.
