A significant milestone for Padawanโs healthy ageing journey ๐
On 13 August 2026, WHO Representative for Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, Dr Rabindra Abeyasinghe presented the WHO Global Network for Age-friendly Cities and Communities membership certificate to Padawan Municipal Council Chairman Cr Tan Kai. Dr Rabindra was joined by WHO officers Dr Isabel Espinosa and Dr Ruben Ramakrishnan.
Padawan joined the Global Network in 2026, becoming the ninth ๐ฒ๐พ city to do so.
Its membership demonstrates the Councilโs commitment to making Padawan a place where older persons can remain healthy, active, independent and connected to their communities.
The certificate presentation was followed by a meeting between WHO and the Council on implementing and further advancing the Age-friendly Cities and Communities initiative in Padawan. The discussion covered the next steps, including understanding local needs, engaging older persons, strengthening collaboration across sectors and developing a practical action plan for Padawan.
As populations age, cities and communities must plan ahead. Supporting healthy ageing means creating accessible environments, inclusive services and opportunities for participation that enable people to maintain their health and well-being throughout life. These improvements ultimately benefit residents of every age.
WHO looks forward to continuing its technical collaboration with Padawan Municipal Council as it moves forward with its age-friendly journey.
