LAWAS | 26 APRIL 2026 - The ground-breaking ceremony for the project "Membina Jalan Dari Kpg. Murud Suang Ke Persimpangan Long Pos, Lawas, Sarawak" was successfully conducted at Kampung Murud Suang. This event was organized by Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak, the implementing agency for the project, with support from the Resident's Office, the Lawas District Office, and the JKKK of Kampung Murud Suang.
The arrival of the esteemed guest, Yang Berhormat Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Bin Ali Hasan, Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development II, and Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment, was celebrated with a traditional dance performed by the local Lun Bawang community. Following this, a brief presentation was held at the exhibition booth by Yang Berbahagia Datu Ir Ts Ahmad Denney Bin Haji Ahmad Fauzi, Director of DID Sarawak, along with Principal Assistant Director, Ir Faizul Bin Abdul Wahab.
The symbolic ground-breaking ceremony was officiated by Yang Berhormat Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Bin Ali Hasan, Deputy Premier, in front of an audience of 400 local community members from Kampung Murud Suang and surrounding villages in the Trusan Area.
The ceremony was also witnessed by Yang Berhormat Datuk Hajah Rubiah Binti Haji Wang, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, Yang Berhormat Dato Henry Sum Agong, Member of Parliament for P.222 Lawas, Yang Berbahagia Dato Jasni Bin Haji Jubli, Director of the Sarawak State Development Office, Implementation Coordination Unit, Prime Minister's Department (ICU JPM), Yang Berusaha Tuan Haji Unus Bin Tambi, Resident of Limbang, and En. Ladin Bin Atok, District Officer of Lawas.
The project “Membina Jalan Dari Kpg. Murud Suang Ke Persimpangan Long Pos, Lawas, Sarawak” is funded by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development as part of the Rural Road Program. The aim of this project is to create road connectivity from Kampung Murud Suang to Kampung Long Sebulu and to the Long Pos junction, which will involve the construction of two bridges over Sungai Sebulu and Batang Trusan, which are included in the project’s scope.
The contract for the project has been awarded to BWS Engineering Sdn Bhd, with a total contract value of RM112.7 million. The duration of project is 130 weeks, commencing from 16th December 2025 and is expected to be completed by 13th June 2028.
The main scope of works of the project are:
1. Construction of 8.82km tar-sealed road with JKR-R1 specification
2. Construction of 1.11km tar-saled spur road
3. Construction of two concrete bridges, one over Sungai Sebulu of 88m length and another over Batang Trusan of 290m length
This project will provide benefits to the entire community along the Batang Trusan. In addition to improve road connectivity within the Trusan area, it will also serve as a foundation for enhancing basic infrastructure and exploring opportunities for potential socio-economic development.
