SFC, in collaboration with TRACE Wildlife Forensics Network, successfully concluded the Wildlife Crime Scene Investigation (WCSI) Training Programme held from 13 April to 8 May 2026 at Lambir Hills National Park, Miri.
The four-week intensive training programme involved selected SFC enforcement personnel and Investigation Officers (IO) from SFC Regional Offices throughout Sarawak. The programme was specially designed to strengthen the competency and technical capability of SFC enforcement officers in handling wildlife crime investigations, particularly in the areas of crime scene management, evidence identification, documentation, collection, handling, and preservation to support effective investigation processes and successful prosecution.
The training sessions were conducted by expert trainers from TRACE Wildlife Forensics Network based in Edinburgh, Scotland. The programme forms part of TRACEโs continuous commitment towards strengthening enforcement capacity building among SFC personnel under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between TRACE and SFC in 2024.
Throughout the training, participants were exposed to both theoretical and practical sessions, including fingerprint enhancement and close-up photography learning session, simulated wildlife crime scene investigations, evidence handling and investigative techniques relevant to wildlife-related offences. The programme also provided participants with valuable exposure to international standards and best practices in wildlife forensic investigations.
The closing ceremony and presentation session were successfully held on 8 May 2026 and officiated by Regional Manager Miri, Tuan Louis Velda, representing the General Manager of SFC. Also present during the ceremony was the representative from the Enforcement & Protection Division, Leonard Baring.
In his closing remarks, Tuan Louis Velda expressed appreciation to TRACE Wildlife Forensics Network for their continuous support, commitment, and collaboration with SFC in enhancing wildlife enforcement capacity in Sarawak.
