A beautiful reflection of Sarawak’s enduring spirit of unity and harmony was witnessed yesterday during the Gawai Dayak Open House hosted by YB Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Second Minister for Finance and New Economy, Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Cum Minister-in-Charge of UNIFOR, at the UNIFOR Complex.

YBhg. Dato Georgina Apphia Ngau, Director of UNIFOR, together with Heads of Religions and interfaith representatives, attended the celebration which brought together people from all walks of life in the true spirit of Gawai Dayak.

The occasion was further graced by the presence of distinguished guests including:

• YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, The Premier of Sarawak
• YAB Datuk Amar Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation

The gathering reflected the strength of Sarawak’s multicultural and multireligious society, where people of different backgrounds continue to celebrate together in mutual respect, understanding and friendship.

Distinguished guests in attendance included:

Wesak Day — the holiest day in the Buddhist calendar — commemorates the three major milestones in the life journey of Lord Buddha: His Birth, Enlightenment, and Parinirvana (passing). The celebration was marked by peaceful prayers, acts of charity, and the symbolic Bathing of the Buddha ritual — a profound expression of purification, humility, and compassion.

PROGRAM SARAWAKKU SAYANG 2026 BINTULU

YBhg. Dato Georgina Apphia Ngau attended Program Sarawakku Sayang 2026 which was officiated by the Premier of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Abang Haji Openg.

Program Sarawakku Sayang 2026 aims to strengthen unity among Sarawak’s multi-racial and multi-faith communities while fostering a deeper sense of love and pride for the State. The programme also serves as a platform to directly share the policies, initiatives, and achievements of the Sarawak Government with the people.

Held in a lively atmosphere in Bintulu, the programme brought together various segments of the community as well as local community leaders. Among the highlights of the programme were the officiating address by the Premier of Sarawak, cultural performances, and interaction sessions with the people.

The programme successfully achieved its objective of strengthening the relationship between the Government and the rakyat, while further promoting the spirit of togetherness, harmony, and unity among the people of Sarawak.

DINNER ENGAGEMENT WITH COMMUNITY LEADERS AND COMMUNITY CHIEFS OF BINTULU DIVISION

YBhg. Dato Georgina Apphia Ngau, Director of the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), attended the Dinner Engagement with Community Leaders and Community Chiefs of Bintulu Division held in conjunction with the Sarawakku Sayang Programme in Bintulu Division.

The dinner was graced by the presence of the Premier of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, together with members of the State leadership, local leaders, community leaders and community chiefs from across Bintulu Division.

The gathering served as a meaningful platform to strengthen the close relationship between the State Government and grassroots leaders while fostering mutual understanding, unity and continuous engagement with the local communities.

UNIFOR’s presence reflects its ongoing commitment towards supporting the State Government’s inclusive and people-centric approach in strengthening harmony, understanding and togetherness among Sarawak’s diverse communities.

PRE-EVALUATION MEETING FOR PHASE 1 MISSION SCHOOL FUND ASSISTANCE APPLICATIONS 2026

The Pre-Evaluation Meeting for the Phase 1 Mission School Fund Assistance Applications 2026 was chaired by the Director of Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR), Yang Berbahagia Dato Georgina Apphia Ngau, today.

The meeting was held to discuss and review fund assistance applications submitted by Mission Schools throughout Sarawak together with Quantity Surveyors from Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) Sarawak. The session was also attended by the Deputy Director, Principal Assistant Directors, and officers from UNIFOR.

The involvement of the Quantity Surveyors from JKR Sarawak was to verify and assess the amounts requested under each application before the actual Evaluation Meeting takes place.

The main objective of the meeting was to ensure that every application is carefully evaluated through a more structured, transparent, and effective assessment process.

For record purposes, a total of 129 Mission Schools throughout Sarawak are involved in this year’s application process.

This meeting plays an important role in ensuring that the funding distribution process is carried out in a complete, transparent, and well-organised manner, ultimately supporting the educational and development needs of Mission Schools in Sarawak.
