Thank You and Appreciation

A heartfelt and sincere thank you to Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Noor Sany, Honorary Consul of Portugal in Malaysia, and H.E. Luiz Manuel de Magalhães de Albuquerque Veloso, Ambassador of Portugal, for giving our community in Ujong Pasir recognition and transparency to the Organisers of the APCC event in Timor Leste.

We received an invitation for the 1511 O Maliao Maliao Troupe to visit and perform at the said event in Dili.

We are deeply honoured and privileged to be part of this meaningful occasion, which celebrates our shared history, heritage and cultural bonds, while further strengthening the enduring friendship and people-to-people ties among the Portuguese-speaking communities of Malaysia, Portugal and Timor-Leste.

We sincerely appreciate your trust, support and warm hospitality in making this journey possible. The invitation is not only a great honour to the troupe, but also a meaningful recognition of the rich historical and cultural connections that continue to unite our communities across generations.

We look forward with great excitement to a memorable and meaningful journey in Timor-Leste, as we come together to celebrate this important milestone, honour our shared heritage and forge even stronger bonds of friendship for the future.

With heartfelt appreciation and gratitude. 🇲🇾🇵🇹🇹🇱

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS OF KAMPUNG PORTUGIS

Dear Residents of Kampung Portugis,

We wish to officially inform everyone that due to the recent change in government administration, the current JPKK Kampung Portugis will be stepping down from our positions with effect from 31 July 2026.

As we come to the end of our tenure, we would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to all residents, volunteers, supporters, and stakeholders who have stood with us and supported our efforts over the past 32 months. It has been our honour and privilege to serve the Kampung Portugis community, and we are truly thankful for the trust, cooperation, and encouragement given to us throughout this journey.

We would also like to place on record that the current JPKK has fulfilled all financial responsibilities undertaken during our term. All workers' salaries under the responsibility of the current JPKK have been fully paid up to July 2026, while all rental payments, quit rent (cukai tanah), and assessment payments (cukai pintu) involving the MBMB areas under our responsibility have been fully settled up to the end of 2026. There are no outstanding arrears or unpaid commitments left by the current JPKK.

Regarding the utility payments for the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, Kampung Portugis, we have officially written to Rev. Fr. Lionel to inform him that, following our resignation, the current JPKK will no longer be able to continue managing and paying for the chapel's electricity bills, water bills, and related expenses from August 2026 onwards. The final payments under our responsibility have been settled up to July 2026 to ensure a smooth transition.

During our tenure, one of our key missions was to work towards having Festa San Pedro recognised as a Warisan (Heritage) event. We wish to assure all residents that although our term has ended, we will continue to follow up and pursue this matter until we see positive results for our beloved Kampung Portugis community.

Likewise, our commitment to fight for the future of Kampung Portugis residents remains unchanged. We will continue to support efforts towards securing a longer land lease extension of 99 years, or, if possible, an even better outcome such as freehold status, for the benefit and security of future generations.

To ensure these efforts continue beyond our tenure as JPKK, we are pleased to share that we have successfully registered the Persatuan Kebajikan Penduduk Perkampungan Portugis Melaka. Moving forward, many of our community initiatives and advocacy efforts will be carried out through this residents' association, with the aim of safeguarding the best interests of the Portuguese Settlement community. The association will soon hold its first committee meeting to determine its priorities and future plans. We warmly encourage all residents to become members when registration opens, and we look forward to your continued support. Please be assured that, although our roles in the JPKK have come to an end, our commitment to the welfare and future of Kampung Portugis remains as strong as ever.

We sincerely apologise if, throughout our tenure, any of our decisions or actions may have unintentionally caused hurt, misunderstanding, or disappointment to anyone. We have always carried out our responsibilities with the best intentions and with the interests of the community at heart.

As we hand over this responsibility, we sincerely hope and pray that the next JPKK team will continue the good work, uphold transparency, listen to the voices of residents, and serve the community with dedication, commitment, and integrity. We hope they will continue to give their best, and even more, for the progress and unity of Kampung Portugis.

Once again, thank you to everyone who has supported us, worked alongside us, and believed in our efforts. It has been a privilege to serve this community, and although our chapter as the current JPKK comes to an end, our service to Kampung Portugis does not. We remain committed to working alongside the community through the Persatuan Kebajikan Penduduk Perkampungan Portugis Melaka and look forward to continuing our efforts for the benefit of present and future generations.

With sincere appreciation,

JPKK Kampung Portugis Committee

Festa San Pedro 2026 – Opening Ceremony | 27th June 2026

A memorable evening as we officially opened Festa San Pedro 2026. We were honoured to welcome YB Alex Seah, representing YAB Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, together with YB Leng Chau Yen and Puan Ezlina Alias, who officiated the opening ceremony alongside our JPKK Chairman, Mr Gerard Danker.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to YAB Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh for his generous RM10,000 pledge in support of the Portuguese Settlement community. Your contribution and continued support are sincerely appreciated.

Festa San Pedro is, above all, a celebration of our community and our heritage. Without our people and our fishermen, there would be no San Pedro. This festival exists because of the generations who have preserved our traditions and the community that continues to keep them alive.

Special Credits:
🎨 Leo Lazaroo – For the beautifully handcrafted souvenirs by our talented local artist.
🎶 Steve Sequerah – For composing and performing “Come Follow Me to Festa San Pedro.”

To our residents, volunteers, fishermen, sponsors, performers and every visitor who joined us, thank you for being part of this special celebration. Together, we honour our faith, preserve our heritage, and celebrate the enduring spirit of the Portuguese Settlement.
