The Macao Gallery is situated only ten minutes away from central Melaka. This two-storey structure was previously occupied by the S

tate Secretary. Built in the days before air-conditioning, it was built in the Siamese style with high ceilings and large verandahs to allow for an airy atmosphere. It has a built up area of about 3,000 square meters. The Macao Special Administrative Regions government and the authorities of Melaka signed a MOU for the management and use of the building. The Macao SAR Government together with the Melaka Historic City Council are responsible for the management of the Macau Gallery. The Gallery is envisaged to showcase the art and culture of Macao as well as the historical ties between Macao and Melaka. Designed and managed by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), "Macao Gallery" is divided into zones with different themes, namely; Macao World Heritage, Maritime Routes, Macao Events, Origins and Cultures, where Macao's history, culture, economy and intangible cultural heritage are displayed through multimedia, images, models, ceramic and handicrafts. The gallery also features an information counter, library, esplanade and multifunction room that converts into small auditorium to conduct art or cultural activities, educational talks, video shows, thematic exhibitions, press conferences and so forth. Exhibition areas display ties between Macao and Melaka, cartography, replicas of ships, traditions, habits and customs, as well as natural landscape. Visitors will be guided to the multimedia area supported with photos and videos that highlights the modern Macao that links Macao's past and present. Interactive computer system will allow visitors feel and deepend their understanding of the history and customs of the inhabitants of Macao. Vision:
The gallery will be a bridge that provides key linkages between Macao and Melaka and the shared history between Macao, Melaka, Portugal and China. Mission:
To provide and disseminate as well as undertake activities and research for establishing and strengthening linkages between Macao and Melaka. Objectives:
To Establish and maintain close rapport with the Historic City of Melaka and the Melaka state tourism organisations. To Establish and maintain close rapport with Malaysian research and academic institutions interested in linkages with Macao. To Position the Macao Gallery as the premier resource centre in Malaysia on Macanese, Portuguese and Chinese culture, cuisine and other aspects. Admission:
