Greetings from SEAMEO SEN !

We are thrilled to share the success of an impactful educational visit to Surabaya, Indonesia, from 7 – 8 July 2026. Led by our Director, Madam Jamilah Kadir, the SEAMEO SEN delegation embarked on a mission to foster strategic collaborations and witness outstanding practices in inclusive education.

A major highlight of the trip was a highly productive engagement with Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA). We are excited to announce that SEAMEO SEN and UNESA have mutually agreed to forge a dynamic partnership. This collaboration will focus on driving impactful research, empowering educators through robust capacity-building initiatives, advancing academic publications, and co-organising upcoming international symposium. Together, we are paving the way for a more inclusive future across Southeast Asia.

The delegation also had the privilege of visiting Sekolah Inklusif Galuh Handayani, a beacon of comprehensive inclusive education in the region. During this field visit and support session, the team observed firsthand their remarkable school operations and benchmarked best practices. It was truly inspiring to see their holistic educational pathway, which seamlessly supports diverse learners all the way from kindergarten up to the college level.

This visit marks a significant milestone in our continuous journey to champion Special Educational Needs (SEN) through regional synergy and institutional excellence.

Happy 69th Merdeka Day, Malaysia!

This 31 August, we celebrate 69 years of independence. A journey built on unity, resilience, diversity and shared progress.

Guided by the spirit of “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”, may this Merdeka remind us that true progress is meaningful when prosperity, opportunities and a sense of belonging are shared by all.

🌏 Reimagining Inclusive Education: Dignity, Belonging & the Right to Learn Together

SEAMEO SEN was honoured to be part of the Karnival Kecemerlangan Inklusif, organised by Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Ilmu Khas (IPGKIK) from 20–21 August 2026.

On 21 August 2026, Madam Monishah Md Shah, Deputy Director of SEAMEO SEN, delivered a keynote address entitled:

🎤 Dignity, Belonging, and the Right to Learn Together: Reimagining Inclusive Education

In her keynote, Madam Monishah emphasised that inclusive education goes beyond technical considerations. It is fundamentally about human rights, dignity, belonging, and ensuring every learner has a place in the classroom.

The keynote also explored Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and the role of technology and AI as enablers of access, independence, and dignity. Rather than changing who learners are, technology can help remove barriers to learning. As highlighted in the presentation:

During the carnival, Madam Monishah also had the opportunity to visit the exhibition featuring innovative projects and creative ideas developed by students. The exhibition showcased inspiring examples of how innovation can contribute towards a more inclusive and quality education ecosystem.

SEAMEO SEN congratulates IPGKIK on the successful organisation of this meaningful carnival and appreciates the opportunity to engage with educators, teacher trainees, students, and education stakeholders in advancing disability-inclusive education.

17–21 August 2026, Melaka – Behavior management played a vital role in supporting learners with special educational needs (SEN) by creating a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment. Effective behavior management strategies helped educators understand and respond to challenging behaviors, promote emotional regulation and encourage positive social interactions. Individualized approaches that considered each learner’s strengths, needs and circumstances contributed to improved participation, engagement and learning outcomes.

To address this need, SEAMEO SEN organised a five-day face-to-face regional training programme from 17 to 21 August 2026, aimed at strengthening educators’ capacity in effective behaviour management. The programme brought together 26 participants from Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, and Thailand, fostering regional collaboration and the exchange of practical experiences and good practices in supporting learners with SEN.

Our deepest appreciation goes to the distinguished speakers, Ms. Nurdiyana Abd Halim from Special Education Division, Ministry of Education Malaysia and Ms. Mable Lai Yue Qin from SEED Autism Services for their insightful presentations, valuable contributions and unwavering commitment to advancing knowledge and best practices in this field. Their expertise, dedication and generosity in sharing their knowledge have greatly enriched the training experience and inspired all participants

20th August 2026, BRUNEI - We are thrilled to highlight another impactful collaboration between SEAMEO SEN and Canva, with the invaluable support and collaboration of SEAMEO VOCTECH. Together, we have successfully hosted an impactful training workshop designed specifically for educators in Negara Brunei Darussalam, focusing on the powerful role of visual design and digital tools in 21st century learning. The workshop brought together regional expertise and educational technology, inspiring teachers to rethink classroom engagement and create a more dynamic learning environment for every student.

In this 1-day intensive workshop, Brunei educators were introduced to hands-on strategies to develop high-quality, accessible, and visually engaging digital resources using Canva, including dynamic presentation decks, interactive worksheets and coding to inclusive teaching aids tailored for diverse learning needs. Teachers were challenged to acquire practical skills and turning traditional lesson plans into captivating digital experiences that enriches daily classroom learning.

This initiatived marked another strong step forward in advancing inclusive and tech-driven education across Southeast Asia. A huge thank you to SEAMEO VOCTECH for their steadfast regional support bringing creative technology to our educators. Together, we are committed to bridging gaps, championing inclusive digital learning, and empowering our teachers to shape the future of education : one classroom at a time! 🌟📚

15th August 2026, Cambodia: SEAMEO SEN, in partnership with Canva for Education, SEAMEO TED and Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia (PUC), hosted theTraining on Digital Learning Approach in Transforming Education at PUC Campus in Phnom Penh, Cambodia! We were thrilled to welcome 60 passionate educators and professionals for an immersive, hands-on day dedicated to making learning more engaging, interactive, inclusive, and student-centered. 🌟

The session was welcomed by Dr. Kol D. Sophia, Vice President of PUC and officiated by Dr. Songheang Ai, Director of SEAMEO TED. The one-day hands-on training were delivered by Ts. Olya Dollah, Canva Certified Trainer and Mr. Mohd Zulkarnain Abdul Wahab, Head of Capacity Development Division of SEAMEO SEN. Participants were also introduced to the SEAMEO SEN–Canva Creativity in Education Award 2026, an initiative to recognise creative, teacher-led practices that empower diverse learners across Southeast Asia.
