On Sunday at BuMI Fest, the Chai & Chat conversations continue with another afternoon of open, unhurried dialogue. Pull up a seat, bring your fav beverage, and settle in.

We’ll have:

☕ The Art of Noticing (10:30–11:30am) With Briana, author of Solo Date, yoga teacher, and journaling facilitator with over six years of daily writing practice. A conversation on staying present, attentive, and deeply connected to the places we move through.

☕ Resonance, Globalisation & the Yoga of Sound (12:30–1:30pm) With Santosh Logandran and Regina Woodard, award-winning composer and sound practitioner. A dialogue on what happens when tradition meets modernity, and why reclaiming an authentic voice is itself a form of healing.

☕ The Sacred Forest: Through the Lens of the Semai Indigenous People of Malaysia (2:30–3:30pm) With Lincoln Khoo, Pak Put, and Tok Batin, advocates and elders of the Semai community. A conversation on the forest as home, teacher, and living relationship, drawn from a lifetime of knowledge and practice.

☕ From Earth to Living Structures (4:30–5:30pm) With Wen Ji and Li Cheng, natural building practitioner and bamboo specialist. A conversation on clay plaster, bamboo, and what happens when we build with materials that are alive to their environment.

Come join us and be a part of the conversation.

Throughout BuMI weekend, our Chai & Chat sessions will bring together thinkers, makers, healers, and doers for open, unhurried conversations about the things that matter — nature, community, sound, movement, food, and the way we inhabit the world.

Drop in, pull up a seat, and join the conversation.
On Saturday, we’ll have:

☕ Breaking the Mold: Movement, Play and Freedom (10:30–11:30am) With Luvenia Kalia, dancer, producer, and dance anthropologist with over 25 years in the performing arts. A conversation on what happens when we give the body permission to move freely, and what that freedom reveals.

☕ Growing a Forest Begins with You & Me (12:30–1:30pm) With Project M.A.R.S., a community ecological initiative in Balik Pulau transforming abandoned land into a living food forest. A conversation on regenerative practice, collective care, and what it means to tend the land together.

☕ Ecology and the Human Experience (2:30–3:30pm) With Dharkshen Selva, divemaster and naturalist shaped by the landscapes of Langkawi and the quiet wisdom of her father. A conversation on ecology as lived experience: how nature forms who we are, and how we move through the world.

☕ Growing Together: Women, Soil and Nature (4:30–5:30pm) With Sabina Arokiam and Safia Salim, two women whose lives are rooted in land, community, and care. A personal, reflective conversation on what the earth has taught them, and what they continue to learn.

Come curious, leave with new perspectives.

BuMI is for the whole family. We have activities specifically for children as well.

All nestled in the Bamboo Garden, our Nature Den space is a world unto itself: a place where children are free to explore, create, and connect with nature at their own pace, guided by a warm team of dedicated volunteers.

Let your little ones veer in and out as they like:

🪵Drop-In: Wooden Blocks Play (All Day, Both Days) Open-ended, imaginative play with wooden blocks because some of the best creating needs no instructions at all.

🌿Drop-In: Plant a Herb (All Day, Both Days) Little hands in soil. Children plant their very own herb to take home and tend. Their first small garden started right here, in the Garden.

Or let them settle in for something a little longer:

🌼Hapa Zome: Nature Print Workshop (Sunday, 31 May · 9:30am–12pm) Gently bashing petals and leaves onto paper or cloth to reveal their hidden colours and patterns. Part art, part science, entirely magical.

🍀Garden Bracelet Workshop (Saturday, 30 May · 3:30–6pm) Beads, string, and a little imagination. Children will design and make their own bracelet to wear home as a memory of the weekend.

🪾Wood Canvas Art (Sunday, 31 May · 3:30–6pm) Drawing directly onto a wooden panel and turning a simple piece of the natural world into their own artwork to keep.

Suitable for children aged 4–12.

🌿The BuMI Fest Kids Pass gives your child access to activities at the Nature Den and the Jungle Survival Experience, the day's Festival Highlight (except Sunday), free Drop-In Sessions where age appropriate and private access to the Garden, closed to the public for the weekend.

Are you aware of what you are calling into your life?

The Attunement & Intention Circle begins with a conversation, a chance to articulate, with clarity and care, what you most wish to draw toward you. From there, the process unfolds quietly: you close your eyes, hold the feeling of your intention, and the attunement takes place through gentle, non-invasive touch. Most find it deeply relaxing. Many leave with a renewed sense of direction.

Mike Tait is a Reiki Master, healer, and spiritual guide with over 25 years of experience, working across energy healing, intuitive guidance, hypnosis, and past-life regression, with a particular dedication to supporting people through major health challenges and life transitions.

Come with something specific in mind. Leave with it anchored a little deeper.

Many believe that all existence is vibration. This session is an invitation to feel it.

Nāda Yoga: Songs of the Chakras is a sonic meditation, a living offering by composer and multi-instrumentalist Santosh Logandran, rooted in the ancient understanding that sound is not just heard but felt, not just received but absorbed. Through original compositions and spontaneous improvisation, he shapes an immersive soundscape where each note becomes a doorway into presence, feeling, and awareness.

Santosh brings over 15 years of experience working across film, theatre, advertising, and music, trained in Qawwali and Carnatic traditions, proficient in tabla, and shaped by a life of musical travel and collaboration across cultures. His work approaches sound as both craft and conversation.
Settle in. Listen deeply. Let your body turn into the vibrations.

Before refrigeration. Before expiry dates. Before the idea of food as a commodity there was fermentation.

Ming, macrobiotic vegan chef, founder of Earth Kitchen, and graduate of Levels I–III at the Kushi Macrobiotic School of Japan in Tokyo, offers two connected sessions across the weekend, tracing fermentation as an ancestral technology: not something we control, but a living system we learn to tend.

The Art of Fermentation: Exploring Living Foods (Saturday, 30 May · 2–3:30pm) A guided talk and tasting through natto, kimchi, tempoyak, miso, tempeh, and koji; rediscovering one of humanity's oldest and most alive relationships with food.

From Ferment to Bowl (Sunday, 31 May · 1:30–3pm) Everything explored on Saturday comes to the table. A cooking demonstration on weaving fermented foods into everyday meals, ending with a DIY poke bowl assembled from Earth Kitchen's own ferments, a quietly radical act of eating something truly alive.

Both sessions are vegan friendly.

Come learn about and taste something alive.

A matter of perspective.

This delicate mushroom beauty appeared quietly on a fallen log in the Garden, barely taller than a finger. Easy to walk straight past. Impossible to ignore once you notice it.

Fungi like this are among the rainforest's great unsung architects. Beneath the forest floor, an invisible web of mycelium breaks down dead matter, releases nutrients back into the soil, and connects the roots of trees in ways science is only beginning to fully understand. What we see above ground, like this cap, is just the smallest visible part of something vast.

We move through the world at human scale, missing entire universes at our feet. The Garden has a way of slowing you down, making you look closer, reminding you that we are a small and fortunate part of a much larger whole.

On your next visit to the Garden, slow down, and observe closely. The forest has a lot to say to those who let us.

Come visit us soon. Purchase your tickets here: https://tropicalspicegarden.com/

Of all the instruments in the world, few resonate with the gentle peace of the soul quite like the handpan.

The Handpan Workshop with Sean is an introduction to one of the most meditative instruments in the world and a practice in presence as much as music. You'll explore rhythm, tone, and touch through simple, intuitive playing. No experience needed. Just a willingness to listen, respond, and be here.

Sean has spent over 20 years in music, beginning as a guitarist before discovering the handpan four years ago. As a sound practitioner at Sen Sound Healing, a dedicated sound healing studio, he brings a rare blend of technical depth and intuitive care to each session. When he's not teaching or playing, you'll find him in the kitchen as the chef and owner of APlace 39, creating harmony through another kind of craft entirely.

Places are limited. Come ready to be surprised by what you hear and what you feel.
