10 July 2026, Batam — Held on the sidelines of the 16th IMT-GT Working Group on Human Resource Development (WGHRD) Meeting, the IMT-GT Workshop: Unlocking Opportunities – Using Labour Market Insights for Skills Development and Employment Policies was organised by the Labour Market Centre, Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia.

The workshop brought together panelists from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the World Bank and the International Labour Organization (ILO) to exchange insights on strengthening labour market information systems, promoting evidence-based employment policies, and advancing subregional collaboration towards a more competitive, resilient and future-ready workforce.

9 July 2026, Batam —The 16th IMT-GT Working Group on Human Resource Development Meeting was convened in Indonesia and chaired by Thailand.

The Meeting reviewed the implementation of ongoing initiatives, discussed the implementation of capacity-building programmes for 2026, and deliberated strategic priorities for the IMT-GT Implementation Blueprint 2027–2031, including strengthening labour market intelligence, workforce competitiveness, skills recognition, and future-ready workforce development.

The Meeting reaffirmed IMT-GT's commitment to enhancing regional collaboration in skills development and human capital development to support a more integrated, innovative, inclusive, and sustainable IMT-GT subregion.

A new road, a stronger link, and smoother journeys ahead! 🇲🇾🇹🇭

The new Bukit Kayu Hitam–Sadao road link marks another milestone in strengthening Malaysia–Thailand cross-border connectivity.

Jointly officiated by Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Thailand’s Prime Minister, H.E. Anutin Charnvirakul, the new link connects Malaysia’s Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS Complex with Thailand’s Sadao CIQ Complex, supporting smoother movement of people, goods and opportunities across the border.

As Priority Connectivity Projects under IMT-GT cooperation, the Sadao CIQ Complex and Bukit Kayu Hitam–Sadao road alignment reflect the shared commitment of IMT-GT Member Countries to enhance connectivity, facilitate trade, tourism and investment, and advance regional economic integration.

6 July 2026, Virtual — The 16th IMT-GT Trade, Investment and Tourism Database Sub-Working Group (ITITD SWG) Meeting was successfully held, chaired by Indonesia.

The Meeting reviewed progress on the standardisation of metadata for trade and investment indicators, discussed preparations for the 2026 IMT-GT Statistical Brief, and finalised key inputs for the report to the 19th Working Group on Trade and Investment Facilitation (WGTI) Meeting.

This reaffirmed Member Countries' commitment to strengthening data harmonisation and transparency in support of the IMT-GT Implementation Blueprint 2022–2026.

1 July 2026, Putrajaya — Representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand convened in Putrajaya, Malaysia, and online for the 18th IMT-GT Working Group on Transport Connectivity (WGTC) and related meetings. The Meeting reviewed the implementation progress of transport connectivity initiatives and Physical Connectivity Projects (PCPs), discussed emerging priorities, and explored opportunities to further strengthen subregional cooperation.

As part of the IMT-GT Implementation Blueprint (IB) 2026–2031 Consultation Workshop on Transport Connectivity, Member Countries also reflected on the achievements and lessons learned from the IB 2022–2026, while identifying strategic priorities for the next five-year implementation period.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Member Countries to advancing a seamless, inclusive, sustainable, safe, and secure transport services and networks, reinforcing transport connectivity as a key driver of regional integration and sustainable economic growth across the IMT-GT subregion.

30 June 2026, Putrajaya — The Centre for IMT-GT Subregional Cooperation (CIMT), in collaboration with Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Thailand, and with the support of the Ministry of Transport Malaysia, successfully organised the Workshop on Accelerating Freight Transport Decarbonisation in the IMT-GT: Policy, Industry, and Regional Collaboration towards Low-Carbon Logistics.

The workshop brought together 84 participants both in-person and online, from government agencies, academia, and industry. Discussions focused on advancing sustainable freight transport and green logistics, contributing to the strengthening transport connectivity across the IMT-GT subregion.

29 June 2026, Virtual — The 16th IMT-GT Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Sub-Working Group (CIQ SWG) Meeting was held virtually, bringing together representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Centre for IMT-GT Subregional Cooperation (CIMT).

The Meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Member Countries to advancing the implementation of the Framework of Cooperation on Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (FoC in CIQ) and fostering a more seamless, efficient, and secure movement of goods and people across the IMT-GT subregion.
