13 August 1979 | YB DATO' HUSSEIN BIN DATO' ONN APPOINTED AS DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER

On this day in 1973, YB Dato' Hussein bin Dato' Onn, the Member of Parliament for East Johor Bahru, was appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister. The announcement was made by YAB Tun Abdul Razak bin Dato' Hussein, the Prime Minister, during a press conference held in Kuala Lumpur. Dato' Hussein Onn was appointed to succeed the late Tun Dr Ismail, who had passed away. Alongside this appointment, YAB Tun Abdul Razak also unveiled a new cabinet lineup. The newly formed cabinet held its first meeting on 14 August 1973, following the swearing-in ceremony.

11 August 1966 | MALAYSIA-INDONESIA PEACE TREATY

On this day in 1966, the Malaysia-Indonesia Peace Treaty was signed in Jakarta. The Malaysian government was led by the Deputy Prime Minister, Tun Abdul Razak while Indonesia was led by Tun Adam Malik, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Indonesia. The treaty was an extension of the Bangkok Treaty, in an effort to end the Malaysia-Indonesia confrontation that stemmed from the establishment of Malaysia in 1963.

The details of the treaty were:-

📍 The Malaysian government agreed to solve the problem between the two countries by giving the opportunity to the people of Sabah and Sarawak to democratically choose, vote and ascertain their position.

📍 The governments of the Republic of Indonesia and Malaysia agreed to re-establish diplomatic ties and interchange diplomats as soon as possible.

📍 The governments of the Republic of Indonesia and Malaysia agreed to directly end all animosity between them.

📍The Peace Treaty was enforced on the date it was signed.

With the signing of this Peace Treaty, on this day in 1966, the conflict between the two countries officially ended.

Salam Takziah diucapkan kepada keluarga Bekas Ketua Hakim Negara, Tun Mohamed Eusoff Chin yang meninggal dunia hari ini pada usia 90 tahun.

Berita pemergian Allahyarham dimaklumkan oleh anak perempuannya, Puan Zuliana menerusi hantaran WhatsApp hari ini. Allahyarham meninggal dunia pukul 1 pagi manakala jenazah telah dibawa pulang ke kediamannya dan akan disempurnakan di Masjid Al-Hidayah, Kelana Jaya sebelum Allahyarham dikebumikan di Tanah Perkuburan Islam Seksyen 9, Kota Damansara.

Semoga roh Allahyarham dicucuri rahmat dan ditempatkan dalam kalangan orang yang beriman dan beramal soleh. Al Fatihah.

Allahyarham Tun Mohamed Eusoff Chin berkhidmat sebagai Ketua Hakim Negara dari 25 September 1994 hingga 19 Disember 2000 menggantikan Tun Abdul Hamid Omar.

Allahyarham memulakan kerjayanya pada 1955 sebagai guru sebelum melanjutkan pelajaran di London. Beliau memperoleh ijazah sebagai peguam daripada Lincoln's Inn, London pada 1963.

Selepas itu, beliau menyertai perkhidmatan undang-undang dan kehakiman dan memegang pelbagai jawatan termasuk Majistret, Presiden Mahkamah Sesyen, Timbalan Pendakwa Raya, Penolong Pendaftar, Penasihat Undang-undang dan Penggubal Undang-Undang, Hakim di Malaya dan Presiden Mahkamah Rayuan.
