Malaysia's agriculture sector is at a pivotal moment. Frontier technologies such as AI, robotics and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) have the potential to strengthen food security, improve productivity and build a more sustainable and competitive agriculture sector.

We're pleased to announce the release of "Unlocking Frontier Technologies for Agricultural Transformation in Malaysia", a briefing paper jointly developed by MYCentre4IR, C4IR India and the World Economic Forum (WEF) under the AI for Agriculture Innovation (AI4AI) initiative.

Developed through the Government Roundtable on Digital Transformation in Agriculture (AI4AI), the paper brings together insights from 50+ stakeholders across 20+ organisations and provides practical recommendations to accelerate agritech adoption in Malaysia.

Sarawak is moving from planning to action with a newly validated governance model.

Through the Bintulu Transitioning Industrial Clusters (TIC) workshop, MYCentre4IR is charting the course for ex*****on by activating four 4IR-powered pilot projects.

These initiatives are designed to dismantle the regulatory and infrastructure barriers currently standing in the way of a RM12 billion boost to our annual GDP.

This isn’t just a plan. It’s a blueprint to establish Sarawak as the green powerhouse of ASEAN, creating 19,000 high-value jobs for the next generation while securing our path to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

As the agriculture sector sees a convergence of multiple challenges, its future is going to be increasingly shaped by frontier technologies from AI and robotics to biotechnology and digital public infrastructure.

To support a strong ecosystem for the use of frontier technologies in agriculture, we're pleased to launch "Unlocking Frontier Technologies for Agricultural Transformation in Malaysia", a briefing paper developed jointly by the World Economic Forum's AI for Agriculture Innovation (AI4AI) initiative and the Malaysia Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (MYCentre4IR).

Drawing on insights from more than 40 experts, the paper explores how frontier technologies can help Malaysia strengthen food security, improve competitiveness and build a more climate-resilient agricultural system, while outlining practical recommendations to accelerate adoption at scale.

On 11 June 2026, the Sarawak Transitioning Industrial Cluster (TIC Sarawak) was officially launched at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, marking a significant milestone in Malaysia's industrial transformation journey, and in the operationalisation of one of the initiatives driven by Ministry of Digital and MITI under Malaysia Digital 2030 (MD2030) and National Fourth Industrial Revolution Policy (N4IRP).

The day opened with a welcome address by The Honourable Datuk Dr. Haji Hazland bin Abang Hipni, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak (MEESty), followed by two high-level panel discussions examining ASEAN's broader industrial transition agenda and Sarawak's specific role within it, drawing on perspectives from regional industry leaders, government representatives, and global partners.

Gim Huay Neo, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum, delivered the opening strategic outlook ahead of the launch proper. Opening remarks by YB Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital and Network Champion of MYCentre4IR, reaffirmed the Ministry of Digital's commitment to digitalisation as a key enabler of Malaysia's industrial transformation. The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Premier of Sarawak, followed with a special address underscoring Sarawak's vision to lead Malaysia's industrial transition as a regional hub for clean energy and digital innovation.

TIC Sarawak is Malaysia's first World Economic Forum-linked Transitioning Industrial Cluster, part of a global network spanning 40 clusters across 20 countries, led by MYCentre4IR – hosted by MyDIGITAL Corporation () – in partnership with the World Economic Forum () and the Sarawak State Government through MEESty. By 2040, the cluster targets 19,000 new jobs, RM12 billion in additional GDP, and a reduction of 21.35 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

With the launch complete, MYCentre4IR continues to advance the model across Malaysia, with clusters in Johor, Penang, and Selangor underway.
