Week 8: Happy week 8 from our Buy A Bin Give A Bin Campaign. It has been a very busy week here in Raub full of presentations to the local primary schools. We began by presenting about our campaign at SK Mahmud. The presentation outlined what we did in Kuantan at Click Camp and the whole development of our social enterprise. We then talked about the importance of taking care of the environment and showed several videos on conservation and recycling. We then made our way to do two separate presentations at the Methodist Girls School of Raub. Lastly we presented to teachers Standard 4 and 5 students at SK Bandar Raub. Aside from educating the local schools on environmental issues we also invited them to support our enterprise and teachers will begin selling our bookmarks expanding our market. We also invited teachers and students to like our page and spread the word on the importance of recycling in our community. We collected lots of video footage and we cannot wait to show you a compiled recap of our project coming in the next week! Stay tuned!

Week 7: Hello! From our Buy a Bin Give Bin Team! We are pressing onwards with our community recycling campaign. After selling 50 bookmarks we have decided its time for another round of production and have pushed our current product numbers up to 120 bookmarks. We spent this week custom designing the bookmarks by crafting and weaving laminated with environmental quotes and our campaigns Facebook information. We will continue selling these bookmarks the rest of this week and over the holiday. Come get your custom Buy A Bin, Give A Bin bookmarks now! We also still have a few rubbish bins available, hurry before they sellout!

As part of our social enterprise, the profits from the custom bins and bookmarks will go towards a community wide bin for all of Raub to share. We have written letters to local primary schools about educating the youth on environmental issues. We have also written letters to the local trash companies about donating these community bins. We will keep you all posted on the developments of these projects. We thank you for your support and hope you all have a safe and happy holidays.

We dropped off the letter to Alamflora and they are going to pass it on to their boss. The gentleman seemed very receptive and stated he was looking forward to supporting our project as it aligns with their current recycling goals.

Week 6: We have been busy for the past month preparing our product and finally selling our bins and bookmarks to the local community in Raub. We met up on Wednesday morning before school holiday, to discuss our plan for selling the bins and bookmarks. We divided into two teams, to sell the bookmarks and bins and to get extra income from selling the bookmarks. We are planning to do a campaign at the nearest primary schools, which are SK Mahmud, Methodist Girls School, and SK Bandar Raub. We also finished creating the bookmarks, and finally laminated them. Our bookmarks are made of two different colours of woven paper hand crafted into a custom design. During the school holidays, we have sold for about a dozen bins and 50 bookmarks to spread awareness of our campaign. We sold the bins for RM 8 each and distributed brochures in every class in our school, SMK Mahmud. Please contact us if you are interested in buying our hand-crafted bins or bookmarks.

Week 5: This week, we resumed in completing our bins by adding design details to it. In the previous week, we finalised the design of our bins and proceeded with purchasing them. We printed custom sticker logos, and we decided to add them to our bins as part of the design. And at the same time, this week we produced bookmarks which will have designs related to our household bins project. These bookmarks will be used for advertising our campaign along with raising awareness. This will also link more community members to our page. Check out the pictures below of our completed project. Week 4: This week we continued to proceed with our household product campaign. Last week, we discussed what our bin would look like and this week we got the design of our bin and we also bought the bins in order to proceed with our project. After buying the bins, we decided to order sticker logos. We designed the custom sticker logos, the logo has a tree and the colour of the logo is pink. The reason why we chose pink as the main colour is that it will symbolize our love to nature. The colour of pink makes us feel calm. So, it is really suitable with our purpose to educate people about our connection to the environment and the importance to recycle. This weekend, all the members will work to make the bins, we have also recruited volunteers to help and plan to take some pictures of them. At the same time, we will produce the advertisements. We will finish the brochure and the bin this weekend. Next week, we can spread the flyers to each class at our school and visit another school. We chose to make 40 bins because we need to make sure our budget has enough to support and sustain our project. Next week, we also will spread the flyers at the night market. We hope everything will be okay and everyone will be excited to see our bin done!

Week 3: This week we continued our Buy A Bin – Give A Bin household product campaign. We have some unique designs that we are excited to share with our local community. We decided on purchasing several plastic bins that are at a good price point based on our overall budget to brand with our logo. Over the next week, we will be preparing for our initial sales launch. This next week we will be collecting our design supplies and decorating our custom household bins. We will also be printing marketing material including bookmarks and pamphlets for environmental educational purposes. We have recruited other students at our school SMK Mahmud to help with decorating the custom household bins. After decorating and making around 50 bins, we will start sales next week. We cannot wait to show you the designed bins! Stay tuned...and stay green!

Week 2: Our group met up this Wednesday to discuss about the next step in designing and implementing our social enterprise focused on community recycling. We worked on designing different logos that would incorporate ideas of the environment and the three R’s of recycling. – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. This logo will be painted upon household rubbish bins that we acquire. We plan on producing 50 of these household recycling bins. We also decided on creating a pamphlet about our business model and important facts about recycling. We have prepared this information in Bahasa Melayu and Chinese to be shared with our local community. As part of our advertisement and outreach we are preparing bookmarks with recycling facts and information. As part of our project timeline, we are right on schedule in surveying supplies/materials and recruiting volunteers to help with our bin build. We look forward to sharing the bin design with you next week!

Week 1: Following a wonderful weekend in Kuantan at CLICK! 6.0 Camp, this week we had a team meeting to regroup, discuss our final goals, develop a timeline, and assign project leaders. We look forward to bringing recycling and responsible waste management to our town in Raub. We plan to provide custom designed household recycling bins, the money raised from the sales of these bins will go towards community-wide recycling bins. Irfan Nukman will be heading our product design and build. Nur Atikah Wahab will be in charge of recruiting. Aqilah Dianah will be leading our page, promotion and social media outreach. Nuur Suhada will be taking on the sales of our product. Lastly, Jeevan A/L Navendran will be the primary contact to other businesses and current trash pick-up companies in the Raub area. We look forward to sharing our “Buy A Bin – Give A Bin” platform with our school and the whole Raub community.
