NOTICE

Temporary Closure of Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre

Dear Visitors,

Please be informed that the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre is temporarily closed due to an ongoing risk assessment to ensure the safety of our visitors, staff, and wildlife.

We will provide updates once the assessment is complete and the centre is ready to reopen. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

My industrial training has come to the end.

Thank you Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre (SORC) for giving me the opportunity to complete my industrial training here for 10 weeks. Even though its a short time but i learned a lot in terms of working with an organisation, handling orangutan, communicating with the tourists and also educating people to protect the orangutan.

Special thanks to SORC team, Appeal UK team, and also the Security for helping me, keeping me save, and also treating me like one of your co-worker eventhough i am just an intern student who needs a lot of guidance.

Tahun ini, mari kita sama-sama menyambut Hari Kebangsaan yang ke-67 pada 31 Ogos dengan tema "Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka". Tema ini menekankan kemajuan, kesejahteraan, dan semangat patriotisme rakyat Malaysia yang berbilang kaum.

Sementara itu, Hari Sabah juga turut serentak disambut pada 31 Ogos 2024 buat pertama kalinya untuk memberi kesedaran dan pemahaman kepada seluruh rakyat Sabah mengenai sejarah yang tercicir ini atau sejarah sebenar bahawa Sabah pernah merdeka pada 31 Ogos 1963 sebelum pembentukan Malaysia.

Mari kita raikan kedua-dua hari bersejarah ini dengan semangat "Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka"! 🇲🇾✨

Do you know?

Orangutans literally means “person of the forest” in the Malaysian and Indonesian spoken language. Orangutans are restricted to the islands of Borneo and Sumatra.

Did you know?
Orangutans from the two islands normally divided into two separate sub-species; Pongo pygmaeus (Borneo) ; Pongo pygmaeus abelii (Sumatra).

Both sub-species are quite behaviorally and morphologically similar but there is higher degree of genetic differences between them than is found within other great ape species.

Young Conservationist Program

YCP is a program that aims to connect students through exploration the wildlife conservation in Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre.

This program has been persued by who has brought 65 students from the international school.

Orangutan Caring Week is a worldwide event held annually every November.

This year, Sabah Wildlife Department hosted a big celebration at Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre.

This event will be celebrated starting today until 20 November 2023 with the theme:
“Forest Guardians: Empowering Communities for Conservation”.
