Title: Factors Associated with Malnutrition Among Hospitalized Patients at Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (HSAAS) Utilizing the PG-SGA Assessment Tool

This research uncovered the often-overlooked reality that malnutrition is not limited to cancer wards—it is silently affecting patients across general medical, surgical, and orthopedic wards. By utilizing the Malay version of the Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA), she identified critical factors such as aging, low BMI, muscle loss, and diminished cellular health, all of which significantly increase the risk of malnutrition. Her findings emphasize the urgent need for routine, comprehensive nutrition screening in all hospital settings.

Through early detection and personalized intervention, her work strengthens the role of dietitians as essential frontline professionals in improving recovery, reducing complications, and restoring health.

"Malnutrition doesn’t always look sick. Dietitians see what others miss. Because healing isn’t just medical, it’s nutritional too."

Title: Prevalence of Nutritional Risk Using Malnutrition Screening Tools (MST) Among Hospitalized Patients at Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah

Her study spotlighted the crucial role of early malnutrition screening among hospitalized patients, revealing that over 30% were at risk using the simple yet effective Malnutrition Screening Tool (MST). By identifying significant associations with comorbidities and ethnicity, her research reinforced the importance of proactive nutritional care as part of holistic patient management. It reflected the urgent call for dietitians to champion early intervention, because preventing malnutrition starts with noticing it.

"Malnutrition Doesn’t Wait, neither Should We."

Title: Factors Associated with Malnutrition Status Using SGA Criteria in Hospitalized Patient at Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah

This study investigated the prevalence of malnutrition in hospitalized patients using the Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) and explored the associations with phase angle (BIA), biochemical markers (albumin, prealbumin), and dietary intake. Key findings showed that low energy and protein intake were significantly associated with malnutrition, supporting the need for comprehensive nutrition screening upon hospital admission. The project highlights the importance of combining both subjective and objective nutritional assessment tools to enhance early identification and timely nutrition intervention for at-risk patients.

“Malnutrition is often silent but serious - nutrition assessment saves lives.”

Title: Association of Dietary and Sugar Intake with Cardiovascular Risks of Patient with Metabolic Syndrome at Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah

This is a cross-sectional study that aims to determine the association of dietary intake and sugar intake with the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) development among patients with metabolic syndrome.
This study highlighted the role of dietitians in determining suitable strategies to manage CVD development based on the dietary intake – carbohydrates, proteins, fats and sugar intake. Although there was no association between dietary and sugar intake with the cardiovascular risk, this study shows worrying trends of unhealthy lifestyle among patients with metabolic syndrome as the majority of patients have excessive body weight and high intake of fats and added sugars.
